Despite a challenging time for Bordeaux, the Château Giscours Margaux 2022 stands as a powerful reminder of the region’s enduring greatness. This third-growth estate earns top honor this year thanks to a remarkable comeback decades in the making—driven by renewed focus on quality, extensive vineyard revitalization, and the steady leadership of managing director Alexander Van Beek. The warm 2022 vintage delivered a fresh, floral, and classically fruited blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, rendered with precision and finesse. The result is a benchmark Margaux—seductive in texture, pitch-perfect in expression, and a triumphant culmination of Giscours’ long, determined evolution.

Selections are based on four criteria: quality (based on score), value (based on price), availability (based on the number of cases made or imported into the U.S.) and the “X-factor”—a compelling story and excitement behind the wine.

“Our list of honorees provides a snapshot of the year in wine, covering everything from top-scoring bottles and standout values to a wave of emerging wineries,” said Jeffery Lindenmuth, Executive Editor, Wine Spectator. “In a year that has challenged the wine industry, our Top 100 reflects the resilience, commitment and long-term view shown by producers around the world. We hope our readers enjoy exploring these great wines, and congratulations to all the winners.”

Thirty-eight wines earned their spot on the Top 100 for the first time this year. While 14 of the wines are priced at $100 or more, 34 cost $30 or less. Overall, the average score is 93 points, the average price $58.
