October 6, 2025 (Reims, France) — The Association of Ratafia Champenois, Marc, and Fine Champenoise proudly celebrates an outstanding 2025 vintage that will long be remembered by winegrowers. The grapes were magnificent, sun-drenched, and blessed with exceptional weather conditions, making the 2025 harvest one of the earliest in the past forty years. Bound by the Champagne appellation’s stringent specifications, Ratafia Champenois has, within just a few years, become one of the region’s emblematic beverages, now enjoying growing recognition around the world.

“The Ratafia Champenois is thriving across the globe, and nature has offered us a wonderful gift this year. The combined efforts of everyone—be it the great Champagne houses or small artisanal producers—are the key to this success. We are proud to stand as a standard-bearer of the Champagne terroir,” says Alexis Leconte, President of the Association. “This spirit, 100% natural and 100% traceable, is truly unique—perhaps the most modern spirit on the market today!”
Eight centuries after its birth, Ratafia obtained its geographical indication in 2015, a symbol of quality and authenticity, and officially adopted the name Ratafia Champenois. This recognition propelled the drink into the spotlight, formalising its production and enshrining its place within Champagne’s heritage. The history of Ratafia Champenois dates back to the Middle Ages, with its origins traced to the 13th century, when it was used to preserve grape juice by halting fermentation through the addition of alcohol. At a time when food preservation posed major challenges—and drinking water was not always safe—this beverage allowed the fruit’s essence to be preserved much like jams or cured products. Over the centuries, the traditional recipe has remained unchanged: during the Champagne harvest, freshly pressed grape must is blended with Champagne eau-de-vie to create this sweet and generous drink.
Each year, the Association of Ratafia Champenois, Marc, and Fine Champenoise organises LE CHAUDRON, a celebration of Champagne excellence showcasing unique artisanal know-how. LE CHAUDRON 2026 (4th edition) will be held on January 30, 2026, and will welcome around one hundred participants, including winegrowers, chefs, sommeliers, and mixologists from around the world.
