August 18, 2025 (New York, NY) — This September, Christie’s is honored to present The Glorious Cellar of a European Connoisseur, a two-day single-owner sale taking place live at Christie’s Rockefeller Center on 25 and 26 September 2025.
Drawn from one of Europe’s most extensive Burgundy collections, the sale comprises more than 1,000 lots and offers an extraordinary range of both red and white, Burgundy—from the most iconic domaines to lesser-known gems. Highlights include full cases of Emmanuel Rouget’s Echézeaux from 2009 and 2010, a rare case of Clos de Vougeot from Prieuré Roch, and over ten vintages of Bonnes Mares from Domaine Georges Roumier. With vintages spanning from the 1990s to the present, this is a true treasure trove for Burgundy enthusiasts.Adam Bilbey, Christie’s Global Head of Wine & Spirits, commented: “This is one of the most significant Burgundy cellars we’ve ever had the privilege to offer. It reflects not only deep connoisseurship but also the joy of collecting with generosity and intention. Each bottle tells a story—not just of the producer and the vintage, but of the collector’s own journey through decades of tasting, learning, and sharing. We are thrilled to bring this extraordinary cellar to auction.”
Beyond Burgundy, the cellar includes a superb selection of Champagne—featuring houses such as Krug, Philipponnat, Salon—as well as exceptional Rhône offerings including Rayas, Chave’s Hermitage, and Guigal’s famed “La La” wines. The sale concludes with a curated group of Italian greats, including Soldera, Giacosa, and Giacomo Conterno.
This remarkable cellar is the result of two decades of passionate and meticulous collecting by a connoisseur with a refined and inquisitive palate. Built through extensive tasting and a deep love of wine, the collection was always intended to be shared—comprising bottles meant for the table, for celebration, and for storytelling across a range of styles and price points. The vast majority of lots were acquired on release through UK agents and have been stored in impeccable conditions at Octavian in Wiltshire, England, ensuring pristine provenance. This sale represents only a portion of a much larger and deeply impressive collection.
