June 26, 2025 (Vertus, France) — A new chapter is being written in the history of the Grands Vins de Champagne. The Champagne Barons de Rothschild House is celebrating twenty years of commitment and investment in the service of excellence. While inaugurating its new cellar in Vertus on June 25th, adjoining the Clos acquired by the Rothschild family in 2013, the House also revealed its first single-plot cuvée, exclusively from this 52-are monopoly.

The rebirth of a historic Clos and an unprecedented new winery
Following the inauguration in 2024 of its production site in Oger – an eco-friendly building semi-buried in chalk – the House which produces around 600,000 bottles each year, is unveiling a spectacular new site that concentrates all of the House’s winemaking activities, from pressing to bottling. For more than ten years, the Rothschild family has restored the integrity and unity of the original Clos and made the bold choice to revive the old building, the first stone of which was laid in 1874, the archetypal heritage of a 19th century Champagne House with its vaulted cellars on several levels and its two elevated levels housing in particular the cellar.
In 2025, after extensive renovations, the vaulted cellars were restored and the barrel cellar returned to its original function. Beneath the roof structure, built using traditional methods, the state-of-the-art vat room offers breathtaking views of the vineyard Clos.
A dive into the cadastral archives of the Napoleonic era restores this place to its former glory and its original name: Le Grand Clos.
“Le Grand Clos 2019” is the House’s first single plot cuvée
Le Grand Clos is above all the name of a place, a place steeped in history whose surrounding walls were erected over 200 years ago in the heart of the Vertus Premier Cru and the famous Côte des Blancs. At the gateway to the medieval village, this contiguous plot now shelters a few precious ares of vines, the first planting of which predates the First World War. For the first time in the history of this lieu-dit, the House has chosen to vinify them separately.

From this decision was born «Le Grand Clos,» a unique and precious wine. While there are just under thirty Clos in Champagne, few cuvées are produced entirely on the plot from which they originate. Acquired in 2013 by the Rothschild family, this Clos will only deliver its precious bottles when they are deemed ready to leave the plot.

About Champagne Barons de Rothschild
Founded in 2005, Champagne Barons de Rothschild was born from a unique and unprecedented alliance between the three branches of the Rothschild Family – today represented by Philippe Sereys de Rothschild (Château Mouton Rothschild), Ariane de Rothschild (Château Clarke – Groupe Edmond de Rothschild), Eric and his daughter Saskia (Château Lafite Rothschild). Passionate about the greatest terroirs in France and around the world, the Barons have joined forces, for the first time in their history, to create a Champagne House and craft their unique interpretation of a “Grand Vin de Champagne” together, combining the elegance of the Chardonnay with long ageing and the purity of a minimalist dosage.
