June 20, 2025 — Château Léoville Poyferré is proud to announce the launch of a limited edition gift set featuring three exceptional vintages: 2010, 2016 and 2022, equipped with a FIDEwine digital passport, available exclusively through Goodness.
All proceeds from this charitable initiative will be donated to the Gérard Basset Foundation, dedicated to education and mentorship within the wine, spirits and hospitality industries (winner of the 2025 V d’Or Best Education & Knowledge Sharing).
A TRIBUTE TO EXCELLENCE AND KNOWLEDGE SHARING
The selection of these three vintages reflect a dual ambition: celebrating the excellence of Château Léoville Poyferré and paying tribute to Gérard Basset, an iconic figure in the world of wine.
The 2010 vintage holds a special significance, as it marks the year Gérard Basset was crowned Best Sommelier of the World in Santiago, Chile. A “solar” vintage, 2010 concluded the first great trilogy of the 21st century, distinguished by its impressive concentration and powerful tannic structure – hallmarks of outstanding Bordeaux years. Combining freshness, intense aromatics and remarkable balance, it offers exceptional ageing potential
The 2016 and 2022 vintages also showcase the richness of the Saint-Julien terroir and the estate’s viticultural mastery. The 2016 vintage, produced from perfectly ripe grapes, is notable for its balance, depth and silky tannins, leading to an elegant, fresh finish. Whereas the 2022 vintage, shaped by one of the hottest summers on record, illustrates the vineyard’s resilience under extreme conditions. Combining power and freshness, it displays exceptional maturity and was awarded a perfect 100-point score, already securing its place as a legendary vintage for Saint-Julien.
AN INITIATIVE THAT INSPIRES AND GIVES BACK
Founded in 2021, the Gérard Basset Foundation has used the universal language of wine, spirits, and hospitality to drive positive change, funding scholarships and mentorship programmes for passionate talents worldwide. Partnering with the Foundation was a natural choice for Château Léoville Poyferré, deeply committed to cultivating excellence and encouraging diversity within the industry.
Romané Basset, co-founder of the Foundation, son of Gérard Basset, commented: “2010 was an important year for our family, as it was the year my father achieved his dream of becoming Best Sommelier of the World. Additionally, 2010 was a legendary Bordeaux vintage, one of the best, which bodes well for a few lucky wine lovers!”
Sara Lecompte Cuvelier, Managing Director of Château Léoville Poyferré, added: “This gift set is much more than a selection of great vintages. It embodies our desire to share expertise and to support those who are shaping the wine industry of tomorrow.”
