Vineyards Across the US Tap Hipcamp to Grow Agritourism and Boost Direct Sales

May 29, 2025 — Vineyards across the country are tapping into a new source of revenue — and it doesn’t come from wine tastings or weddings. Increasingly, they’re offering guests the chance to camp, glamp, or park an RV right on-site, and seeing stronger foot traffic, brand exposure, and direct-to-consumer sales in return.

That’s according to Hipcamp, the world’s largest provider of unique outdoor stays, which recently released its list of the Top Winery & Vineyard Camping Experiences in the U.S. From California and Texas to New York and Illinois, these properties are combining agriculture with overnight stays and benefiting from it.

“We’ve always loved welcoming people to our vineyard, but Hipcamp has introduced us to a new kind of guest — people who want to connect with the land, enjoy a bottle under the stars, and stay for more than an hour,” said Aaron Bryan, winemaker and co-owner of Camp Gold Dust Vineyard in Somerset, California, who has recently expanded his offering to include a one-of-a-kind onsite arcade. “It’s added a meaningful new layer to our business.”

Hipcamp’s platform connects landowners with a growing community of campers who seek immersive experiences on working farms, wineries, and regenerative ranches. Nearly 50% of Hipcamp trips in the U.S. take place on working lands, reflecting a major shift in how people want to travel and engage with the outdoors.

For vineyards, the value extends far beyond the booking fee. Bookings for guided farm and vineyard tours on Hipcamp grew by 49% last year, and campers regularly contribute to the local economy. On average, each Hipcamp trip generates $300 in spending at onsite and nearby restaurants, tasting rooms, shops, and farm stands — dollars that support small businesses and strengthen rural communities. It’s a shift that mirrors broader consumer demand for direct-to-consumer wine experiences and sustainable, experience-led tourism.

And the appeal of vineyard camping is growing fast. Hipcamp currently partners with nearly 300 vineyard Hosts across the U.S., and saw tens of thousands of bookings made at these properties over the last 12 months. Listings in this category are around 3x more likely to be booked than the average listing on Hipcamp, making them a powerful option for vineyards seeking additional revenue and visibility.

“Hipcampers come for a weekend stay and patronize our tasting room but they often leave as wine club members,” said Walt Roper, co-owner of 4R Ranch Vineyards & Winery in Muenster, Texas. “Having stayed here, they feel a real connection to the place, what we produce, and the wine that we’re able to send on to them. For us it helps with long-term, recurring revenue, not just a one-time sale.”

Roper’s family ranch began offering camping through Hipcamp during the pandemic, when Texas state parks were temporarily closed. The response was immediate. Today, 4R Ranch combines award-winning wines and Red River Valley views with tent sites, RV spots, and access to the Brambles Trail, a rugged network of mountain biking and hiking paths that plays host to statewide races and events.

In Taylors Falls, Minnesota, Jenni Olson of Wild Mountain Winery and Wild Vines Campground has transformed her vineyard into a full-fledged destination. “We recently had a reviewer state that, ‘The winery can’t really decide if it’s a winery or a campground.’ We have always asked, ‘Why can’t we be both?’ We are thankful that many people agree,” said Olson. “From tent camping in the woods to glamping in our vineyard, we also provide great wine, local beer and cider, live music, and wood-fired pizzas on our beautiful outdoor property. We love living here and enjoy sharing our piece of the St. Croix River Valley with guests.”
