Catena Zapata Celebrates Seventh Year on La Place De Bordeaux with the Release of Acclaimed 2021 Vintage

September 25, 2024 — We are thrilled to announce the release of the 2021 vintage of Nicolás Catena Zapata and Adrianna Vineyard Mundus Bacillus Terrae on 23rd September 2024. This will be the seventh consecutive year that these two wines are distributed with La Place de Bordeaux in Europe and Asia.

In exciting news for Nicolás Catena Zapata, we are unveiling a special new label that pays tribute to the story behind the wine and celebrates the pioneering work of Catena Zapata, The Catena Institute of Wine, and Nicolás Catena himself. It captures the essence of a revolution—explaining the resurrection of the Original Bordeaux Blend and paying homage to our ungrafted, massal-selected vines. The label’s striking design is a manifesto, symbolising the transformative journey of Argentinian wine, and for the first time we are using a wax seal to honour the pre-phylloxera origins of our vines.

We’re also proud to share that our Adrianna Vineyard Mundus Bacillus Terrae has achieved remarkable acclaim, earning perfect 100-point scores from both Descorchados and Jane Anson. Catena Zapata’s Adrianna Vineyard now holds an impressive 14 100-point wines, solidifying our status as the most-awarded vineyard in South America.

In 2023, Catena Zapata was voted #1 in the World at the World’s Best Vineyards 2023 award ceremony. This year, on November 4th when the new 2024 winner is announced, Catena Zapata will enter the World’s Best Vineyards Hall of Fame, which is reserved for vineyards that have topped the winning list.

HARVEST REPORT 2021

The vintage started with a dry spring, followed by a humid summer with cooler climate in the Uco valley. The dry spring set the stage for moderate yields, and the cool, sunny summer with sporadic rains kept the vines happy. The result in the Uco Valley was an early harvest of Malbec with perfect phenolic ripeness and acidity. The Cabernet Sauvignon ferments have beautiful fresh fruit, optimal acidity and relatively low alcohol, allowing for longer macerations that will yield wines of elegance, longitude, texture, and perfect balance. A great year for Cabernet Sauvignon in high altitude Mendoza.
