Bold Predictions Session 3: Wine Advocates Push Back on Anti-Alcohol Movement

Healdsburg, CA, June 25, 2024— Registration is now open for Wine Industry Network’s (WIN) third and final session of the 2024 Bold Predictions: Wine Industry Leadership Conference Series. This virtual session will broadcast on August 7, 2024, from 10:00 a.m – 11:00 a.m. Registration is free for wine industry professionals.

Recent consumer research demonstrates dramatic shifts in Gen Z and young Millennials’ attitudes about wine consumption while at the same time, anti-alcohol lobbyists are fanning the Neo-Prohibitionist flames. The good news is that wine companies and advocates are fighting back with campaigns that focus on the positive attributes of wine.

In this session, Gino Colangelo will present the findings of a consumer research study conducted by Wine Opinions and Colangelo & Partners, that illustrates the challenges for attracting new wine drinkers. In addition, this session will also include:

  • Dave Parker, President of Benchmark Wine Group, will talk about the misinformation propagated by anti-alcohol lobbyists.
  • Karen MacNeil, Author of The Wine Bible and Editor of the Digital Newsletter WineSpeed, will present ‘Come Over October,’ a consumer campaign developed by a new mission-driven company ‘COME TOGETHER – A Community for Wine.
  • Shilah Salmon, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Jackson Family Wines, will present campaigns and sponsorships Jackson Family Wines is initiating to engage younger consumers in active lifestyle consumption occasions.

“While there remains some debate about the state of the wine and the focus on health and wellness, there is no doubt about the neo-prohibitionist movement and the negative impact it could have on the wine sales and ultimately, the people whose livelihood is tied to wine” states George Christie, President of Wine Industry Network. “This session may be one of the most important ones we’ve produced and I think anyone that tunes in will feel the same” added Christie.
