Hope Family Wines Champions New Era for California Sauvignon Blanc

August 31st – Paso Robles, CA: Treana, a storied producer of Paso Robles wines since 1996, has released its first-ever Sauvignon Blanc to meet accelerating demand for this popular white grape variety.

“We want to be a champion for California Sauvignon Blanc,” said Austin Hope, owner and winemaker at Hope Family Wines. “At a time when Sauvignon Blanc grape acreage is shrinking in some areas, demand is growing. We endeavored to create a wine that would get in the middle of this conversation and give fans of California Sauvignon Blanc an exciting new choice.”

The 2022 Treana Sauvignon Blanc California ($20) is now available nationwide. Treana is one of six labels produced by Hope Family Wines, a multigenerational paragon of Paso Robles winegrowing and winemaking. In the fall of 2022, Hope Family Wines was named “American Winery of the Year” by Wine Enthusiast’s annual Wine Star Awards.

California Style

Treana is not only sourcing Sauvignon Blanc from older Musqué clone vines in places like Paso Robles and Lodi, but is also exploring emergent terroirs such as the Cuyama Valley east of Santa Maria. Hope noted that some longtime Sauvignon Blanc hubs such as Napa Valley are converting acreage over to higher-value grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon.

“Sauvignon Blanc has such a rich history in California, and we believe that another exciting new chapter lies ahead,” Hope said. “At Treana, we are diving deeper into alternative regions. Sauvignon Blanc is very adaptable to both cooler and warmer climates in California, and we wanted to make a wine that exhibits the sum of that expression.”

Hope also noted that Treana Sauvignon Blanc draws from a classic California style, which stands in contrast to the racy New Zealand renditions that have helped drive the grape’s popularity. “I think it’s cool to have a bit of contrast, and to embrace a style that is quintessentially California,” he said.

Stainless & Oak

The 2022 Treana Sauvignon Blanc draws from hidden gem vineyards across California. The wine was fermented and aged for five months in stainless steel as well as new French and American oak. The stainless steel portion drives the punchy floral and tropical character of the wine while the oaked lot helps round out and soften the mouthfeel. The resulting wine is easy and approachable, but with the body and weight to accommodate a wide range of food pairings.

Treana Sauvignon Blanc joins an established family of wines that includes Treana Red Blend, Treana Cabernet Sauvignon, Treana Blanc and Treana Blanc de Blancs.

“We believe that Sauvignon Blanc is the right grape, at the perfect time, to further enrich the story of Treana,” Hope said.

Treana is the sum of elements that influence our wines: the land that our family farms, the warm California sun that nurtures, and the cooling ocean breeze that balances. These elements combine to create the perfect growing conditions for our grapes.
