Bright, sun-kissed and profoundly distinctive of the estate’s terroir, Poggio alle Gazze dell’Ornellaia 2021 “is complex and desirable, vaunting citrus notes, exotic fruits and white flowers, paired with aromas of freshly cut grass and asparagus,” explains Winemaker Olga Fusari. “The tasting experience ends in a long savory and mineral finish, which represents the local land.”
This evocative wine communicates the constant dialogue between the terroir, mankind and the microclimate, which always remains good-natured here. 2021 began with a wet and mild winter and a regular spring. Such perfect conditions enabled the estate to approach with confidence the hot, dry summer (especially August), as is often the case in the Bolgheri region. Sea breezes and temperature changes from day to night accompanied the perfect ripening of the grapes, which were gathered early in the morning, beginning with Sauvignon Blanc on August 18, followed by Viognier and Verdicchio, before ending with Vermentino in the second week of September. After slow, soft full-bunch pressing and alcoholic fermentation that did not exceed 22°C, the wine dwelled in the cellar, divided between wood, concrete and steel, ensued by about one year of bottle aging. Poggio alle Gazze dell ‘Ornellaia 2021 is a hallmark of exemplary style and remains a symbol of beauty and harmony.
