Brian Carter Cellars Named Pacific Northwest Winery of the Year by Great Northwest Wine

March 28th – Woodinville, WA – Brian Carter Cellars announced today that it has been named the 2023 Pacific Northwest Winery of the Year by Great Northwest Wine. The article will be available on April 2 at www.greatnorthwestwine.com, and the cover piece in the Spring 2023 edition hitting newsstands Friday, March 31. This achievement puts Brian Carter Cellars at the crown of approximately 2,400 wineries in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and British Columbia.

Late in 2022, Brian Carter Cellars was granted seven Platinum awards during Great NW Wine’s annual Platinum competition. Five wines earned Double Platinum status as unanimous selections by judges. In the past 3 years, Brian Carter Cellars has earned 16 Platinum awards. Great NW Wine CEO Eric Degerman said recently – “No other winemaker received as much praise during  the 23rd Platinum Awards program as Brian Carter.” 

Recognized for his approach and deftness in blending wines made from varietals grown entirely in Washington state, Brian Carter’s wines consistently score well in wine competitions and receive top accolades from key wine critics. Since 2000, Brian Carter Cellars has collected nearly 800 awards from 35 competitions and publications. 

“After 43 vintages in Washington, it is so great to get this type of recognition; it just reinforces the fact that I am still enjoying making wine and still learning how to do it better and better. I am deeply honored,” said Brian Carter upon learning the news of this award. 

A long-time player in the Woodinville wine community, in March of 2022, Brian Carter Cellars  expanded its offerings to include select food and wine pairings, opening a new Tasting Room and Bistro in Woodin Creek Village in downtown Woodinville, an emerging food and wine destination. 

Also in 2020, Brian Carter Cellars expanded with a new space on the Vancouver, WA waterfront, also adding a kitchen and paired food offerings.  

About Brian Carter 

Since coming to Washington State in 1980, Brian Carter has been involved in the winemaking at dozens of Washington wineries over his long tenure in the state and is known as the first Washington winemaker to focus solely on making blends from grapes grown in Washington. Brian has been at the forefront of the Washington wine industry. By encouraging growers to plant different varietals, he has influenced both the quantity and quality of Washington State varietals, resulting in tremendous improvements in the industry.  

Brian Carter has been involved in research and education in the State and is dedicated to giving back to the Washington wine industry. Brian Carter was recently awarded the 2020 Grand Vin Award by Washington Wine Growers Association. In 2015, Wine Press NW named Brian Carter Cellars Washington Winery of the Year. In 2007, Brian Carter was named Honored Vintner at the Washington State Auction of Washington Wines, in 2004 he received the Industry Service Award from the Washington Wine Grape Growers, and in 1996 Brian Carter was awarded the Alec Bayless Prize by the Washington Wine Commission. In 1986 and 1988 he was named  Winemaker of the Year by Washington Magazine
