20 April – “Our family has always believed in the philosophy of doing more with less and ensuring we are good stewards of the land and our community. Our 10-year support of NCC’s important conservation and stewardship work helps strengthen our commitment to protecting our region and our nation’s ecosystems,” said Tony Stewart, CEO, Quails’ Gate Estate Winery.

Since 2012, Quails’ Gate has contributed $100,000 to support NCC conservation projects in B.C.’s Southern Interior and beyond. These projects include: expanding Sage and Sparrow Conservation Area, which provides habitat for 71 at-risk plants and animals west of Osoyoos; conserving 215 hectares of wetland and forest along the Ryan River in the Pemberton Valley; and enhancing habitat for the endangered Williamson’s sapsucker in the South Okanagan.

“We are proud to celebrate our decade-long relationship with Quails’ Gate this Earth Day. As a not-for-profit land conservation organization, the Nature Conservancy of Canada relies on dedicated partnerships like this to implement the projects that protect this country’s most important natural areas and the plants and animals they sustain. Quails’ Gate has shown their sincere commitment to contributing to the well-being of nature here in British Columbia, and for that, we are truly grateful,” said Krista Sheppard, Director of Development and Communications, B.C. Region, Nature Conservancy of Canada.

In addition to the 10-year partnership with NCC, Quails’ Gate’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in all areas of the estate operations. Quails’ Gate vineyards were recently certified through Sustainable Winegrowing B.C. Old Vines Restaurant and Quails’ Gate Wine Shop participate in Return-It’s wine cork collection program which collects and recycles natural wine corks into eco-friendly footwear. Quails’ Gate’s composting program diverts more than 150 pickup truck loads of yard waste to an onsite compost pile annually, while all lighting in Quails’ Gate offices and on the property is motion-activated, and supplemental outdoor lights and water features are timed to only come on when needed. Quails’ Gate Wine Shop uses biodegradable, eco-friendly, and reusable bags while the philosophy at Old Vines Restaurant philosophy focuses on the use of sustainable and local ingredients ensuring seafood and other proteins are ethically caught and raised.

To celebrate Earth Day on Friday, April 22 and throughout the Earth Day weekend, Quails’ Gate invites guests to visit and take a walk through our sustainably farmed vines followed by a tasting in the Wine Shop or enjoy food offerings that support Ocean Wise and local farmers at Old Vines Restaurant.
