Wines Direct from Dugat-Py Set 29 World Records

HONG KONG – July 12, 2021 – Acker kicked off the second half of a momentous 2021 with a small but powerful sale in Hong Kong on July 10th. The first auction of the season realized HK$30M/US$4M in total sales, with 98% of all lots sold. An astounding 20% of all eligible lots in the sale set New World Records. Buyers showed no signs of a summer slowdown, with a Jeroboam of 1999 Domaine de la Romanee Conti La Tache selling for an extraordinary $205,626, besting the World Record previously set in 2020 by more than 3x. Wines direct from the cellars of Dugat-Py, whose history dates back almost 1000 years in Burgundy, also accounted for an impressive 29 New World Records.

Burgundy and DRC dominated the Top Ten Lots, with DRC taking first and second prize with the aforementioned Jeroboam of La Tache at $205,626, followed by a three-bottle lot of 2009 Romanee Conti ringing in at $61,045. Third place was a three-way tie, with two 12-bottle lots of 1962 Leroy La Romanee and 3 bottles of 2017 DRC Romanee Conti each bringing in $57,832. Sixth place included another New World Record, $48,194 for a 1990 Methuselah of DRC Romanee St. Vivant, tied by 12 bottles of 2005 DRC Richebourg. Another all-time high was recorded in eighth place, where a Methuselah of 1990 Ramonet Montrachet brought in $41,768, matched by 3 bottles of Jayer Vosne Romanee Cros Parantoux. Another New World record finalized the Top Ten, as a Jeroboam of 2005 DRC Richebourg surged to $35,342.

“After a record-setting first half of 2021, where we sold $90M at auction and 50% more than our nearest competitor, it was gratifying to kick off the second half of the season first and definitely foremost,” commented Acker Chairman John Kapon. “Demand is insatiable across the board, and you could feel the excitement in every lot. It was an honor to bring wines straight from the cellar of Dugat-Py. We look forward to feeding the incredible demand this Fall, which is certain to be an exciting, action-packed season!”

Acker kicks off monthly spirits web auctions this week, and the auction season continues in Delaware on September 9th-10th and Hong Kong on September 24th-25th. Acker is currently accepting wines for its Fall “live online” auctions, with weekly web auctions closing every week and spirits auctions closing monthly.
