Fourth-generation, family-owned Napa Valley estate winery announces a new portfolio of wines

NAPA VALLEY, Calif., June 9, 2021 — Silverado Vineyards, the iconic Napa Valley winery founded by Diane Disney Miller and Ron Miller in 1981, announced today the launch of the BORREO portfolio of wines, named after Napa pioneer Felix Borreo.

L-R: Olive Oil, Kerner, Rosa 750ml, Rosa 1.5ml, Sangiovese, Zinfandel

Silverado launched two previous anniversary wine projects – celebrating 20 years with the release of the Silverado vineyard SOLO Cabernet and 30 with the single-vineyard GEO Cabernet from Mt. George vineyard. In 2021, to commemorate 40 years – Silverado created BORREO.

Borreo was an Italian immigrant and Napa grocer who purchased property near Napa Valley’s Soda Springs Resort and built a stone and redwood winery in 1888 where he planted grapevines, fruit, and olive orchards. In 1992, Silverado’s founders – the Miller family – purchased the site and named the vineyard the Soda Creek Ranch. Silverado winemakers Jon Emmerich and Elena Franceschi began making a single-vineyard Sangiovese followed by a Rosé of Sangiovese and a classic Zinfandel.

The building that Borreo built on the property remained one of Napa’s last ‘ghost’ wineries until it was destroyed in the 2017 wildfires. The land survived along with grapes, lemons, pomegranates, and other botanicals including olives which Franceschi crafts into a small production of extra virgin olive oil each year. After experimenting with unusual grape varieties, Emmerich planted Kerner (an aromatic white from Germany) and made a few hundred cases.

In honor of Felix Borreo, Silverado has renamed the vineyard Borreo Ranch and created a package to evoke the story of Felix and the property. The illustrations on the label feature the botanicals on the property and were designed by Annabelle Rey Miller, fourth-generation winery owner and great-granddaughter of Walt Disney.

The Sangiovese and Rosa will also be available nationally and internationally for both on- and off-premise. The Zinfandel and Kerner will be available in very limited quantities for club members and select restaurants.

SRPs: Rosa 750ml $28, Rosa 1.5ml $65, Kerner $38, Sangiovese $38, Zinfandel $45, and Olive Oil $50.
