DAVIS, Calif., May 19, 2021 – Dr. Gavin Sacks, Professor and Associate Chair of Food Science at Cornell University, New York, will be the keynote speaker for the 72nd ASEV National Conference. His address, “Reducible Complexity – The Knowns and Unknowns of Hydrogen Sulfide and Sulfur Dioxide in Wine,” will take place at the 72nd ASEV National Conference on Tuesday, June22, at 10:30 a.m. This year’s conference is a virtual event, with early registration ending on June 15.
Dr. Sacks’ research interests are in developing and utilizing state-of-the-art approaches for analysis of trace-level components associated with food and beverage quality, especially in wine. He teaches courses related to wine flavor chemistry and analysis, and has co-authored a textbook on wine chemistry. He was the recipient of the AJEV Best Viticulture Paper in 2015.
“I’m very pleased to have this opportunity,” said Dr. Sacks. “I came from a background outside of wine and grapes, and I was struck at my first ASEV meeting in 2008 by how welcoming the community was to new faces.”
Founded in 1950 by a group of researchers and winemakers, the ASEV is dedicated to the interests of enologists, viticulturists and others in the fields of wine and grape research and production throughout the world.
