WOODINVILLE, Wash.  (April 28, 2021) – Novelty Hill-Januik has begun construction on a new garden patio and adjoining Cellar Room that will expand the winery’s outdoor gathering area, provide unique settings for curated wine tastings and enhance private event space. Construction is expected to be complete this summer.

In keeping with Novelty Hill-Januik’s contemporary design, the addition reflects the modern aesthetics of the building and landscape. The new 6,700 sq. ft. garden, located on the east side of the building, will feature a decorative steel wall that will serve as the backdrop for a large, freestanding firepit. A small stone garden and tree-lined plaza will provide casual seating. Concrete and ipe hardwood, both materials featured prominently in the winery’s industrial-strength design, will be used for a seating area surrounding the bocce ball court and a shaded canopy adjoining the Cellar Room. The existing Cellar Room will be redesigned to allow for more natural light and flexible seating for tastings.

Winemaker Mike Januik says the new construction was designed with the guest experience in mind. “Our outdoor terrace has been a popular gathering place for club members and the greater community since we opened this building in 2007. The new garden patio will allow us to host personalized guest experiences year-round.” The winery plans to introduce new seated wine tastings later in the year, including food and wine pairings. The garden area and adjoining Cellar Room will facilitate private events ranging from intimate weddings to corporate meetings and celebratory events.

Paul Wanzer and his team at Seattle’s Hoshide Wanzer Architects designed the new space. Wanzer was the lead architect on the winery’s original design. The building has earned numerous national and international design awards. Woodinville’s Rubicon Construction is the project’s general contractor.
