Geographical Digest’s Virtual Wine Exploration Continues This November

Now in its third month, the global wine tasting series continues bringing the world of wine to oenophiles with November’s “Pure Expression” webinar

November 5, 2020 (Los Angeles, Calif.) – After making its debut in September, The SOMM Journal has announced the third installment of its popular Geographical Digest Wine Education Webinar Series. “Pure Expression: Finding Balance Between Vineyard and Winery” is scheduled for virtual broadcast on November 19, 2020. The series, held in partnership with National Geographic Books and its newly released New Sotheby’s Wine Encyclopedia, is designed to bring global wine industry leaders together to educate enthusiasts of all levels about the world of wine. The release of New Sotheby’s Wine Encyclopedia by National Geographic Books, now available for purchase, was the catalyst for this innovative approach to wine education.

Though the phrase “wine is made in the vineyard” is commonly used in the wine industry, “Pure Expression: Finding Balance Between Vineyard and Winery” examines the impact winemakers, production techniques, and aging vessels have on wine, leading one to consider whether every terroir needs a little technique in order to produce great wine. Viewers will hear insights on the importance of vision from vine to wine as panelists from participating wineries discuss whether their role is to translate or interpret the terroir.

Participants in Geographical Digest’s “Pure Expression” webinar include: France’s iconic Champagne Louis Roederer, featuring Xavier Barlier, Senior VP of Marketing & Communications; Bozal Mezcal from the hillsides of Mexico’s Oaxaca region, with Proprietor August Sebastiani; the Santa Lucia Highlands’ Talbott Vineyards, featuring Winemaker David Coventry; Echolands Winery of Walla Walla, WA, with Owner and Founder Doug Frost, MS, MW; Castello Banfi from Tuscany’s Brunello region, with General Manager Enrico Viglierchio; Napa Valley’s Bordeaux-focused Sequoia Grove Winery, and Winemaker Molly Hill; and family-owned Barboursville Vineyards of Virginia, featuring Estate Director/Winemaker Luca Paschina.

Following this month’s “Pure Expression” webinar, future live presentations include: December 16: The Southern Hemisphere – From Down Under to the Top of the Andes; January 21: An Exploration of Renowned Single Vineyards; February 18: Technique or Terroir – Is It Production or Nature That Make These Wines Great?; March 18: Italy – North to South; April 22: Luxury from Remarkable Sites; May 20: A World of Bordeaux Blends; and June 24: Western Europe.

Live virtual tastings will be held at 9AM PST, 12PM EST, and 6PM Central Europe on the respective dates, and are available to be viewed live via SommCon or on-demand at the convenience of the audience. Enthusiasts can register for the live or on demand sessions, free of charge, at GeoDigestClub.com or SommJournal.com.
