Italy’s Premier Food and Wine Authority Introduces New Rare Wines Section in 2025 Guide
ROME, Italy (November 20, 2024) – Gambero Rosso, Italy’s leading food and wine media company, has released the 38th edition of its acclaimed Vini d’Italia guide. Available in Italian, English, German, Chinese, and Japanese, this year’s guide showcases an unprecedented level of innovation, including a groundbreaking new Rare Wines section highlighting exceptional small-production artisanal wines.
The 2025 edition features comprehensive reviews of 24,772 wines selected from approximately 40,000 tasted samples. Following Gambero Rosso’s renowned Bicchieri rating system, 498 wines achieved the prestigious Tre Bicchieri (three glasses) designation, including 52 new entries at the top tier. The newly introduced Rare Wines section spotlights 50 limited-production, large-format bottles, ranging from 40-year lees-aged cuvées to single-vineyard meditation wines.
“The work behind the Guide is immense,” says Lorenzo Ruggeri, Editor in Chief of Gambero Rosso. “With a team of nearly 70 experts coordinated by curators Giuseppe Carrus, Gianni Fabrizio, and Marco Sabellico, we provide a high-resolution snapshot of the Italian wine world. After tasting almost 40,000 samples, we can confidently say this is a universe of fascinating complexity, in perpetual evolution.”
Coinciding with the guide’s release, Gambero Rosso is launching an innovative “Wine of the Future” educational program, coordinated by Professor Attilio Scienza. This comprehensive 150-hour course combines online modules with in-person seminars, covering everything from vineyard innovations to market trends and digital storytelling.
