The month-long celebration encourages people to get together and toast with wine, the world’s oldest communal beverage
SALEM HILLS, Ore. Oct. 9, 2024(NASDAQ: WVVI, WVVIP)— Many would agree Oregon wouldn’t be the same without wine—the agricultural value, beautiful vines sweeping the landscape and of course the community that Oregon wine creates for the 30,000+ people the wine industry employs and the people who travel here to taste it. It’s no surprise that many Oregon wineries have joined the effort to celebrate the grassroots campaign “Come Over October,” including Willamette Valley Vineyards, one of the state’s leading producers of Pinot Noir.
While winemakers are in the throes of harvest and wine production, winery tasting rooms and wine shops are still abuzz with Come Over October.
Developed by wine writer Karen MacNeil, Gino Colangelo and Kimberly Noelle Charles, Come Over October “celebrates the positive role wine plays in bringing people together,” they say on the campaign website. “Come Over October is a new national campaign of events happening across the United States this October. During the month, wine lovers are encouraged to invite friends, colleagues, neighbors, and family to ‘come over’ and share some wine–at home, in a restaurant, at a winery, or wherever you like to gather.”
Willamette Valley Vineyards’ special promotion this month invites people to take part in two ways:
First, invite a friend and enjoy wine flights together. Two flights are complimentary with the purchase of two qualifying bottles at all Willamette Valley Vineyards locations in Oregon and Southwest Washington.
And second, mix and match six qualifying bottles and receive two complimentary Riedel Bordeaux glasses with your purchase, which are available at participating locations throughout October.
This month is special in that it promotes people to get together, something we may still be struggling to overcome since the advent of the COVID-19 epidemic years ago. Oregon writer Tom Wark also sees the value of Come Over October as “a way to address the loneliness epidemic,” he writes in his newsletter, ”…wine itself is perfectly suited for this job. Consider the wine bottle. At 750 ml, it is designed for sharing. This can’t be said for the 12oz beer bottle or can. This can’t be said for the fifth of vodka or gin, let alone the cocktail. Wine alone is bottled and presented as a means for gathering and sharing…”
