An Honoring of Family Tradition with Schlink Haus’s Dry Wine Line Expansion “Günther Schlink”

Chicago, Illinois. September 16th, 2024 — A 200-year tradition of the famous blue Riesling bottle stands behind the Schlink Family and their estate in Nahe, Germany. Now in the fifth generation of winemakers, the Schlink Family continues to hold quality and innovation at the forefront of their craft.

In the 1950’s, Günther Schlink married his wife, Rosemarie Schlink (neé Barthelmeh).

Together, they took over and led her family’s winery—originally established in 1886—and made Bad Kreuznach in Nahe, Germany, their home. Over their 60 years at the helm, they won and established a 40+ year presence in the U.S., and made themselves among the first cobalt-blue bottles of Riesling to be brought to the market. Since the 1980s, many producers in Germany have switched from green and brown bottles, seeking to differentiate themselves in the market and follow in the Schlink Family’s footsteps.

An expansion of their line, the Günther Schlink brand seeks to pay homage to this generation of Schlink Family history. Under the current hands of Michael and Michaela Schlink, the wines are made with the tastes of contemporary enthusiasts in mind. The name itself stands for reliability in a first-class, quality product. It is a product that honors tradition and family heritage, and stands reminds the generations to come to never be satisfied, but instead to always be reaching for more.

Continuing their 40-year partnership with the Schlink Family, Wein-Bauer Imports now carries four of the Günther Schlink wines. Expanding off of Günther Schlink Pinot Noir Rose, the portfolio now includes Günther Schlink Pinot Noir, Günther Schlink Grauer Burgunder (Pinot Gris), and Günther Schlink Riesling. The winery functions sustainably and produces vegan wines.

Located between the Mosel and the Rhein, Nahe is one of Germany’s smaller wine regions.

Yet, its extraordinary range of soil types is second to none. It is a place where the peaceful landscape

of vineyards and meadows is strikingly interspersed with cliffs and imposing geological formations. Soil types representing all three phases of the rock cycle can be found here, allowing the region to successfully cultivate a range of varieties and produce a large diversity of wines.

“We’re very excited to launch these wines. The Günther Schlink Pinot Noir Rose has already been well received, and the Wein-Bauer Team is looking forward to spreading the word on the rest of these great, dry wines,” says Christopher Bauer.

Wein-Bauer’s portfolio primarily focuses on importing wines from Austria, Germany, Portugal, Hungary, France, and Argentina on a national level across 49 U.S. states. Their entrepreneurial mindset is still the driving force, as Manfred Bauer and his son Christopher, continue to find innovative, value-driven and family-oriented producers.
