May 16 - May 18
The International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), jointly with the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), will host the first International Symposium on Grapevine Epidemic Diseases. Pierce’s Disease & Flavescence dorée on May 17, in Austin, Texas. This event will gather relevant international academics and specialists from the viticultural sector.
In the framework of the International Year of Vine and Wine, the Symposium is aimed to generate an international debate around the phytosanitary, regulatory, economic, and social aspects associated with two major grapevine epidemic diseases, Pierce’s Disease and Flavescence dorée, and to encourage the discussion about the current state and the perspectives for the health and productivity of vineyards worldwide.
The symposium is organised in the following four sessions:
Session 1 – Disease epidemiology and the impact of climate change
Session 2 – Disease monitoring and control: international standards
Session 3 – Disease monitoring and control: regulatory frames
Session 4 – Mitigation strategies and economic impact
A round table entitled “Towards a harmonised international strategy” will close the symposium. This session will encourage debate about the relevance of collective strategies to face extended challenges and the options to develop an international harmonised regulatory model.
