Wine Producers Invited to Enter 21st Decanter World Wine Awards

Entries for the 21st Decanter World Wine Awards, the world’s largest and most influential wine competition, will close on 15 March.

March 7th – Decanter World Wine Awards 2024 (DWWA) present wine producers with the opportunity to be judged by some of the most experienced and prominent experts from around the world. A medal at DWWA provides international recognition and is a trusted benchmark for both trade and consumers.

The largest wine competition in the world, last year, the 20th anniversary of the awards saw a record number of 18,250 wines from 57 countries judged.

The rigorous judging process sees wines blind tasted in order to conceal producer identities and are categorised based on region, colour, grape, style, vintage and price point to accurately benchmark wine quality.

Decanter World Wine Awards Co-Chair Andrew Jefford commented: “We’re immensely proud of our judging pool: a little United Nations of wine. If DWWA is the largest wine competition in the world (as it has been since at least 2013), those judges are a key reason.”

After extensive tasting and re-tasting by the judges, wines are given points. Those scoring 86 to 89 points should be ‘well-made, sound and satisfying’ within their categories, and are given a Bronze medal; those scoring 90 to 94 points should be ‘high-quality wines of excitement and personality’ within their categories, and are awarded a Silver medal.

The rare Gold medal wines (95-96 points) must be ‘outstanding and memorable wines’ within their category. The very finest wines are promoted to Platinum medal status (97-100 points) with the best 50 wines from this list then promoted to Best in Show.

Decanter World Wine Awards Co Chair, Sarah Jane Evans MW, said: “Whether you are in a restaurant or a high street supermarket, that Decanter World Wine Awards medal is really something you can trust.”
