Codevilla (Pavia) 24th august 2023 – A land, the Oltrepò Pavese, always recognized for its great winemaking vocation, its flagship grape, Pinot Noir, and a market, the United States, traditionally attentive to this territory nestled in the heart of Lombardy, just below the line of Italy’s longest river, the Po. These are the elements that outline a significant challenge that La Genisia has decided to undertake in one of the most coveted foreign markets: the U.S.
At the core of the company’s project lies the Lombardy wine region. A fertile land that produces excellent wines, ranked as the third area in Europe for the vocation of Pinot Noir. Right here in Oltrepò Pavese, thanks to the zoning project, unique terroirs have been identified, each distinct in altitude, exposure, and density. This diversity contributes to the wines originating here, offering a rich range of expressive nuances. In this setting, the company works with the aim of genuinely interpreting Lombard wines, allowing them to express in the glass the full uniqueness of their roots.
Pinot Noir is a versatile grape that can be crafted into both white and red wines, yielding important still and structured wines or equally prestigious sparkling wines. “This – explains the winemaker Simone Fiori, – is undoubtedly a grape with unique characteristics that, through our work in the cellar, we strive to enhance to the fullest. We aim to smooth its edges to create delightful and fascinating wines that remain true to their authenticity, reflecting the unique terroir.”
An example of this is the still Pinot Noir DOC, vinified in red. Obtained from 100% Pinot Noir grapes from the area of Borgo Priolo (Valle Coppa), located at approximately 240 meters with an East/West exposure, carefully selected in the vineyard and then hand-harvested to preserve their quality. Ageing lasts for 6 months, approximately 30% of the wine is matured in French oak barriques of second and third passage, while the remaining portion rests in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks.
The wine displays an intense ruby red color with violet highlights. The nose reveals intense aromas of red and dark fruits, while the palate experiences a complex blend of fruity and herbal notes harmoniously intertwined with delicate spicy hints. It presents a full, juicy, and velvety taste, leaving a long-lasting impression. With an alcohol content of 13% and residual sugar of 4.00 g/l, it embodies a remarkable expression of the region.
