Rosé Joins the Core Lineup For The Second Year
St. Helena, CA, April 17, 2023 – Lang & Reed Napa Valley was founded in 1993 with an optimistic spirit and a lofty dream: to create world-class Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc. Crafting exceptional Cabernet Franc for 30 years, this family-owned-and-operated team are experts of the varietal and its versatility. For the second time in 20 years, Lang & Reed is releasing a Rosé of Cabernet Franc ($40 SRP) from Napa Valley.
In 2021, winemaker and proprietor John Skupny decided to have a little extra fun and allocated a portion of his coveted hillside grapes to make 30 cases of Rosé of Cabernet Franc for family and friends. The 2021 vintage was the first Rosé the team has released in almost 20 years, a joyous ode to the family’s passion for the grape that was incredibly well received. For the newest 2022 vintage, Lang & Reed made 70 cases and applied their philosophy of minimal intervention, letting the terroir and the varietal characteristics speak for themselves.Sourced from the venerable Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard, the Cabernet Franc grapes used to make this beautiful Rosé were planted on hillsides with rocky soils in the Napa Valley AVA. This terrain promotes low to moderate vigor creating balanced hillside fruit with velvet-like tannins. The vineyard’s elevation ranges from 250 to 1050 feet above sea level and faces southwest towards San Pablo Bay. The climate is moderately warm with afternoon marine winds cooling the warmer air from the surrounding hillsides. This incredibly expressive Rosé of Cabernet Franc exhibits the harmony found in the ideal altitude, slope, and soil that Napa Valley offers.
The 2022 vintage displays a sense of playfulness, yet with enough maturity that makes it a great time to sip this wine. Elegant and distinct, the initial aromas of fruit and berries have evolved into a bouquet of wild strawberry, delicate fresh-cut herbs, and dried flower, and a hint of savory currant. On the palate, the bouquet is mirrored, along with a touch of uplifting acidity and bursts of fresh citrus. The texture is luxurious and saturated, while retaining its vigor and mouth-watering freshness. A delightful, bright pink color in the glass, this Rosé possesses slightly savory flavors that are persistently long-lasting and will pair well with most dishes.
