Spoto Family Wines and Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Famer Robin Zander Announce Partnership with Release of Exclusive New Wine “Surrender”

Family-Owned and Operated Winery Releases Music-Inspired Label with Rock Music Legend

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (July 29, 2021) – Spoto Family Wines, an ultra-boutique, third generation, family owned and operated small production winery, handcrafting premier wines from legendary vineyards in the Napa Valley, announced today its partnership with Robin Zander, American singer, songwriter and rhythm guitarist best known as the lead singer for the iconic rock band Cheap Trick. The Spoto-Zander 2017 Oakville Special Select Cabernet Sauvignon “Surrender” (SRP $175) is rock ’n’ roll approved and sure to be a chart topper.

“We’ve been huge fans of Robin and the band for years and have discussed launching a label together for some time as we both have a passion for winemaking and music and wanted to bring together those two elements that make life so enjoyable,” said Stuart Spoto, winemaker and owner of Spoto Family Wines.  “To have this wine bottled and ready for people to enjoy is truly a dream come true for us both. We simply can’t imagine doing this with anyone else and cannot wait for people to try it while listening to some of the best rock music of our time.”

Robin Zander and Christy Spoto are both passionate animal lovers. Christy is a longtime supporter and Puppy Raiser for Canine Companions, and Zander has announced that proceeds from the sales of the “Surrender” Special Reserve Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon will benefit Save the Elephants to help protect the threatened animals.

Aged four years in a custom made Tonnellerie Leroi French oak barrel, “Surrender” is a perfectly balanced Bordeaux-style Cabernet consisting of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, and 2% Malbec. The Oakville Station, where the grapes were sourced, is part of one of the most historic vineyards in Oakville, located due west of the “Welcome to Napa” sign in the heart of the Napa Valley.

“For over 40 years, I’ve tasted wines from all over the world and I’ve always dreamed of one I could call my own, but it had to be of the highest integrity,” said Zander. “After visiting the Spoto’s home and winery in Sacramento years ago, we’ve had many conversations about creating a label together that celebrates great American winemaking and rock ’n’ roll and we finally found the right time to launch with the release of ‘Surrender.’ Believe me, this wine will rock your world and it was worth the wait.”

A stand-out vintage from the Napa Valley, the 2017 wine is intense, rich, dark and delicious.

Deep garnet-purple in color, it offers lifted black cherries preserves, black raspberries, warm cassis and red currant jelly with touches of dried herbs, potpourri and dusty soil. The palate is full, firm, fine-grained and jam-packed with fragrant black fruit preserves, finishing long and

perfumed. With just 25 cases produced, the “Surrender” Spoto-Zander 2017 Oakville Special Select Cabernet Sauvignon is now available for purchase via Spoto Family Wines website, www.spotowines.com.

For more than 15 years, Spoto Family Wines has been making small batch Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-style blended wines from their home in Sacramento as the first bonded winery in the area using grapes from legendary vineyard sites, including Oakville Station in Napa Valley and Beckstoffer Vineyards in Lake County.
