Innovation and Inspiration Abound at Scheid Family Wines

Scheid Family Wines Announces the Promotion of Casey Di Cesare — Winemaker for Sunny with a Chance of Flowers, Metz Road and Grandeur

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA, April 20, 2021 – Scheid Family Wines, based in Monterey County, California, is pleased to announce the promotion of Casey Di Cesare to Winemaker for its innovative brands Sunny with a Chance of Flowers, Metz Road and Grandeur. Sunny with a Chance of Flowers is a low calorie, low alcohol, zero sugar wine that is the trailblazer in the Better for You category. It was recently named a Top 10 Hot Brand by Wine Business Monthly. Metz Road is a vineyard-designated offering that utilizes in-vineyard native yeast fermentation and Grandeur is the Company’s first wine made from Certified Organic grapes.

Originally from Irvington, a small Hudson River town in New York, Di Cesare brings a wide range of experiences and a passion for innovation to Scheid Family Wines where he has served for more than four years as Enologist and Assistant Winemaker. During this time Di Cesare has spear-headed the ideation and launch of the trending low alcohol Sunny with a Chance of Flowers wines, as well as the innovative in-vineyard fermentation approach for Metz Road and Scheid’s new line of organically grown wine, Grandeur.

Prior to this role, Di Cesare attended the University of California, Los Angeles, class of 2011 competing as a Division I athlete in track and field, where he placed in championship meets in both the decathlon and pole vault. Though majoring in political science at the time, Di Cesare quickly found an interest in wine through one of his teammates and spent weekends working at Cinquain Cellars in Paso Robles. There he gained valuable experience as a part-time cellar worker before joining their team as a winemaking intern from 2011 to 2015.

VP of Winemaking Dave Nagengast comments, “With an insatiable curiosity for experimentation for the end goal of producing better wines, Casey has taken on the vital role of changemaker at Scheid. His talents offer a tremendous value during this exciting time of growth and momentum for us.”

Di Cesare’s experience also includes a stint with Ithaca Beer Co. working as a chemical analyst in 2016 before taking on a role as Cider Making Intern for South Hill Cider that same year. In 2017, Di Cesare received his Masters in Enology at Cornell University within the Finger Lakes AVA. Upon graduation, he returned to California in 2017, where he has become an integral part of the Scheid Family Wines team.
