Participants to Compete for a Charity of Their Choice

HALL logo(ST. HELENA, CALIFORNIA – April 5, 2021) – HALL Wines, one of the world’s most notable Cabernet Sauvignon producers, has announced plans to host its annual Cabernet Cookoff: Home Edition on Friday, April 23 as part of its Happy Hour online series. The 2021 Cabernet Cookoff Home Edition, continuing in a virtual format for its second year, is an online food and wine pairing competition where contestants compete to create a recipe that best pairs with a HALL Cabernet Sauvignon. The event will be hosted by Vintner Kathryn Hall.

“The need to help support non-profit organizations is more important today than ever,” says Vintner Kathryn Hall. “By taking this event virtual, we hope to raise awareness for deserving charitable organizations and have some fun while we are at it.”

Participants are asked to submit a recipe online via an Interest Form, on behalf of a charity of their choice. The judging committee, comprised of senior staff at HALL with backgrounds in culinary arts and winemaking, then selects the three dishes that best pair with the HALL Cabernet Sauvignon. These top three dishes will be created during the live competition by renowned Chef Lars Kronmark who will also share insights into food and wine pairing.

The competition is open to everyone and winners will receive the following donations to be paid to the charity of their choice. Prizes are: First Place, $5,000; Second Place, $2500; and Third Place, $1,500. In addition, the public will select an Audience Choice Award for $1,000, by voting on the HALL Wines Facebook Page in advance of the competition and announced live during the April 23 show. All prizes will be paid directly to the winner’s charity of choice.

The wine selection for the event, 2017 HALL Eighteen Seventy-Three ($85.00 retail), is dark garnet in color, with powerful aromas of ripe blackberry, wet stone, and intense, yet integrated oak. The palate is loaded with concentrated blackberry notes. The finish is lengthy and full of dark, balanced, and dense tannin.

Anyone who purchases HALL’s 2017 Eighteen Seventy-Three prior to the event will be invited to join a private VIP virtual tasting with Winemaker Megan Gunderson and Kathryn Hall at 3:30pm Pacific prior to the main event at 4:00pm. Guests joining the ZOOM session are invited to enjoy a glass with Megan and Kathryn while the pair conduct a Q&A with audience questions.  Access to this tasting will be emailed as part of the wine purchase.
