Sonoma County Vintners and Winegrowers Partner to Host Virtual Panel on Sustainability in Celebration of Earth Day

Virtual Adventure on April 22 Will Discuss the Wine Community’s Dedication to Sustainability and the Picturesque Sonoma County Wine Region

SANTA ROSA, California – April 15, 2020 – Streaming live from the world’s most sustainable wine region, Sonoma County Vintners and Sonoma County Winegrowers will co-host a virtual panel discussion on sustainability via Zoom on Wednesday, April 22 at 11 a.m. PST/2 p.m. EST as the world celebrates the 50th anniversary of Earth Day from their homes.

Sonoma County has a record-breaking 99 percent of its local vineyards certified sustainable, making it the most sustainable wine region in the world. The winemakers and grape growers in Sonoma County have long been at the forefront of creating and utilizing sustainable practices, and are committed to living and working a lifestyle to ensure businesses and the agricultural heritage in the county will be maintained for years to come. Deep dive with sustainability experts in grape growing and winemaking from around Sonoma County and learn why you should fall even more in love with some of your favorite Sonoma County wines. Panelists will include winemakers and grape growers who can speak to what this recognition means for the destination and why consumers should be drinking sustainably. The panel will be moderated by Wine Enthusiast’s Virginie Boone, who has long covered the famed Sonoma County and Napa Valley regions for the publication.

During the hour you virtually spend with us in Sonoma County, you will learn sustainability highlights, fun facts and how these efforts most importantly are part of the DNA of our wine region featuring representatives from Silver OakGary Farrell Vineyards & Winery, Sangiacomo Family Vineyards and Bevill Vineyard Management. The winemakers and grape growers will broadcast live from a number of the 18 different AVAs (wine growing appellations) within Sonoma County. Now more than ever, Sonoma County based winemakers and grape growers are inspired to share their own stories around sustainability, and how they have impacted the community while simultaneously being able to bring the destination to the homes of viewers. Whether you’re new to wine and want to enjoy the beauty of wine country in spring or a sommelier interested in learning more about sustainable wine growing and making, the afternoon will present an entertaining and informative experience for all.

The winery and vineyard panel participants represent businesses that are certified within California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance (CSWA), which takes a triple bottom line approach to sustainability, incorporating best practices in the vineyard and winery in the areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility and fiscal diligence. Each of the panelists has received recognition for their leadership in sustainability – for example, Silver Oak holds the title of “most sustainable winery in the world” and has eared LEED-Platinum Certification for Building Design and Construction (BD+C).
