King Estate Introduces Inscription Pinot Noir, “A Vow of Authenticity”

Aug. 21, 2019 (Eugene, OR) – King Estate is launching a new brand of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir called Inscription, created expressly to further showcase Oregon’s unique place among the world’s wines.

“It’s not so much that Inscription is unique but that Oregon Pinot Noirs are themselves unique in the world,” says King Estate CEO Ed King. “We created Inscription as a marker for great Oregon wine. It’s our vow of authenticity, our promise to uphold the authentic nature of well-made Oregon Willamette Valley Pinot Noir.”

The top quality of Inscription is possible because King Estate not only produces outstanding fruit from its own Biodynamic® vineyard, but through long standing relationships with its renowned vineyard partners the winery has the luxury of selecting only the highest quality fruit for its Pinot Noir programs.

“Our small lot separation and fermentation approach and grading process is unique to a winery of our size,” King says. “We grow more fruit than we need. This allows us to be very selective and choose only those lots that meet our high standards. Lower graded lots are sold to other wineries, leaving us with the ‘cream of the crop’ for our own Pinot Noir programs.”

The grapes were meticulously hand sorted. Each lot was individually fermented in small batches with up to 20 percent whole cluster inclusion, which gives the wine the distinctive structure Oregon Pinot Noir is famous for. The wine was aged for eight to 10 months in French oak, about 30 percent in new barrels.

Chief Operating Officer and Winemaker Brent Stone describes the finished product as round on the palate with flavors of red fruit like raspberry and strawberry, joined by forest floor and subtle earthen notes and complemented by just the right amount of oak.

About half the fruit in the wine came from King Estate’s own vineyards with the balance from acclaimed vineyards located throughout the Willamette Valley. Inscription Pinot Noir is being distributed nationally. Initial case production is 10,000.

More information can be found on the Inscription website.

Inscription means a legend carved in something enduring – a fitting name for a classic Oregon Pinot Noir.
