Canvasback Unveils New Walla Walla Tasting Room

WALLA WALLA, Washington – June 18, 2019 – Canvasback announces the opening of its new tasting room at 1825 J B George Road in Walla Walla, Washington. The Southside tasting room, which was formerly the home of Solemn Cellars and Doubleback Winery, will be dedicated exclusively to the winery’s portfolio of Washington State wines, including the Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, and Canvasback’s pinnacle Grand Passage Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery will unveil an expanded lineup of wines made by acclaimed Canvasback Winemaker Brian Rudin, including a Columbia Valley Riesling, a Walla Walla Valley Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, and a single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from the renowned Ciel du Cheval Vineyard on Red Mountain.

Canvasback Tasting Room

Founded in 2012, Canvasback worked closely with famed vineyard manager Dick Boushey to establish relationships with the finest growers on Red Mountain and produce its inaugural vintage of Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. The following year, Boushey and the Canvasback team oversaw the planting of the winery’s 20-acre Longwinds Estate Vineyard on a coveted piece of land near the top of Red Mountain.

“Washington produces phenomenal wines with an unmistakable sense of place. When we founded Canvasback, our goal was to share wines from the state’s small, distinctive winegrowing regions with the rest of the world,” says Rudin, who began his career at L’Ecole N° 41, before going on to make wines at Cadaretta and Buried Cane. “We’ve laid down meaningful roots on Red Mountain and in Washington State, first with our estate vineyard, and now with our tasting room where we have created the perfect place to share our passion with other enthusiasts.”

The new Canvasback tasting room will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., for both by-appointment and drop-in guests. Designed to embody the rustic elegance and frontier spirit of the region, the tasting room offers an idyllic setting for indoor and outdoor seated tastings. The experience will feature a rotating selection of new wines that will be debuting throughout the year, including two new Syrahs, the winery’s first Riesling, and single-vineyard Cabernets from Ciel du Cheval, Klipsun and Canvasback’s own Longwinds Estate.

“These wines speak to some of the finest pairings of grape varietal and growing location in the Pacific Northwest,” says Rudin. “Whether guests are experiencing our dynamic new Riesling from Frenchman Hills Vineyard or comparing the contrasting styles of Syrah from Red Mountain and the Rocks District of Milton-Freewater, our collection showcases our favorite growing regions.”

Duckhorn Portfolio members are welcome to enjoy this new space, including a small winery, a fire pit, picnic tables, and a new wine club. Canvasback members will receive two annual shipments of wine beginning in the fall of this year. All members will receive complimentary tastings for up to four guests and shipping fees included on wine orders.
