The Evolution of Stone Edge Farm Estate Vineyards and Winery

Continuing the Legacy of Celebrating the Terroir of Sonoma County

June 16, 2026 — Stone Edge Farm Estate Vineyards and Winery, led by pioneering Sonoma County winemakers, the McQuown Family, is introducing La Maison, the new Stone Edge Farm Tasting Room at 21200 8th Street East in Sonoma, California.  The new destination is moments from downtown Sonoma. It will include the new home of Stone Edge Farm, the farm that supports Enclos—the Michelin two-starred and Green Star restaurant just off the Sonoma Square—as well as new tasting experiences to enjoy their portfolio of estate wines from the esteemed Moon Mountain District in the Mayacamas Mountain range. La Maison opens on June 16, 2026, by appointment only.

La Maison further solidifies the McQuown’s commitment to Sonoma County, regenerative farming, and Stone Edge Farm as a leader in terroir-driven wines from California.   Highlighting the McQuown’s deep respect for the land and reverence for nature, this next chapter allows for growth through sustainability and innovation, principles that have guided Stone Edge Farm Estate Vineyards and Winery since its inception in 2004.

“This is an exciting time for Stone Edge Farm Estate Vineyards and Winery as we unite our operations to continue to offer transformative experiences that showcase our wines, inspired by the grace, complexity and collectibility of First Growth Bordeaux Chateaux.  We are excited to introduce a new home for our wines to be enjoyed, whether guests are looking for something intimate or a shared experience with friends and family,” commented Founder Leslie McQuown.  “Guests will be able to enjoy both relaxed indoor and outdoor experiences at La Maison, including a stroll amidst the fruits and vegetables of our farm, which importantly provides the bounty to our restaurant, Enclos, and enjoy our extensive Gardens.”

DESIGN

Stone Edge Farm Estate Vineyards and Winery has always taken inspiration from the natural surroundings of each site for its design, celebrating the diversity of Sonoma County.  Led by Leslie McQuown, La Maison’s design is thoughtful and intentional, embracing the Wabi-Sabi philosophy and celebrating the natural beauty and imperfections of materials.  Working with Cindy Bayon from Bayon Design Studio, Inc., the focus was to create a residential experience that is livable and comfortable, yet modern and clean with an Asian influence.  The principle of Feng Shui was utilized throughout, optimizing the flow of energy to provide balance and harmony. In addition, the spectacular vistas are showcased, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor space.  Tori Johnson also supported the development of the overall landscape architecture across the property.

Guests will be welcomed by a large fireplace, adding warmth to the space, and soaring ceilings.  A semi-private bar, surrounded by large windows, will be available for a convivial tasting, the perfect location for an introduction to the elegant wines of Stone Edge Farm Estate Vineyards and Winery.  The Founders Room is anchored by a long table, the ideal setting for an exclusive library wine tasting.  The Collectors Lounge opens to a private patio punctuated by inviting fire pits and will be the members’ ‘home away from home’.  The Enclos Room will be another private space available for culinary pairings, flowing into a private outdoor space with a bar, hidden under towering palm trees.

With reverence to the land and a minimal intervention approach, Leslie McQuown led the design, working closely with lead farmer Colby Eierman on the horticulture plan, reflecting the vitality of the land and the team’s commitment to organic and regenerative farming. Influenced by the family’s organic farm that supplies Enclos with heirloom vegetables, fruit, olives, and olive oil, herbs, eggs, honey, and flowers, this new 1.5-acre culinary garden will allow guests to discover the ethos of the Farm before the ingredient gets to the plate.

“The Farm Team and I are excited about working closer with Chef Brian and the Enclos Team to support their menus, where we derive our inspiration.  This new site will allow us to provide additional diversity and further support the production goals for the restaurant,” commented Lead Farmer, Colby Eierman.  “The McQuowns have worked tirelessly to ensure each site is tended with organic, sustainable means and this is no different.  Driven by nature and honoring each season, we strive to grow healthy soil to support a healthy habitat for future generations.  With respect to the land, I am looking forward to continuing to build the legacy of Stone Edge Farm.”

There will be an extensive garden with a greenhouse and hoop houses on site to support the bounty.  An acre of vineyard will be planted with Chardonnay to allow for Stone Edge Farm Estate Vineyards and Winery to introduce a sparkling wine to their portfolio.

Composting will remain an important element of the Farm, enriching the soil alongside cover crops that foster biodiversity, and a pond is also being introduced. The site will run on renewable energy, completely operated on solar–sustainable, clean, and without the emission of greenhouse gases.   The result will be flavorful, nutrient dense produce, gorgeous flowers, and a strong and lively biological habitat.

The location is also meant to be enjoyed, with inviting paths luring guests to discover evocative and unique spaces. Future programming is being planned for the gardens for guests to enjoy and with so many different spaces throughout the location, it will be perfect for a variety of events.

LEGACY

Stone Edge Farm Estate Vineyards and Winery was started in 2004 by the late Mac McQuown and his wife Leslie.  The couple envisioned creating magnificent, site-driven Sonoma wines like the First Growth Bordeaux they had been collecting for almost 50 years. Working with winemaker Jeff Baker, their vision was brought to life with their inaugural 2004 vintage.

The couple also worked tirelessly to ensure each site was tended with organic, sustainable means.  This was born from Mac having grown-up working at his uncle’s farm in Illinois, farming organically and sustainably before the terms existed.   That experience still informs Stone Edge Farm today – from the decisions in the vineyard and winery, to the proprietary Microgrid that fuels the family farm, which will continue to provide select ingredients to Enclos.

THE FUTURE

Leslie has welcomed in the next generation to steward her and Mac’s vision; their son Morgan, and his wife Alexa.  The trio is endeavoring to continue to evolve and improve – raising the bar with each new vintage.  They are working with Winemaker Alejandro Zimman who has been at the helm since the 2018 vintage, following Jeff Baker’s retirement. Their philosophy is simple: ‘grow the best grapes on the best terroir and stay out of the way’.

“My parents were Sonoma pioneers in so many respects—from regenerative farming to staying true to the elegant and age-worthy wines that they loved, developing wines with extraordinary character and longevity,” commented Morgan McQuown.  “I am excited to continue the legacy of introducing a rich range of settings and experiences to discover our expressive wine that showcases terroir and vintage.  From rare library verticals to organic agriculture and fine dining, we invite guests to join us for an unforgettable taste of Sonoma County terroir.”

Stone Edge Farm Estate and Vineyards Portfolio:

In the early years, production was rather small. The core of the wine was a combination of grapes from the Sonoma valley floor and the Moon Mountain District to create a structured Cabernet Sauvignon designed for long aging, with the percentage of valley vs mountain fruit being 50/50. A turning point came in 2012, when the McQuowns acquired Silver Cloud Vineyard—a 160-acre property but only planted 18 acres, sitting at 1,800 feet of elevation. The site has steep slopes and volcanic soils that seem to change with every row, giving the wines incredible layers of structure and flavor. This unique property is the ultimate expression of mountain terroir and responsible stewardship.  The Moon Mountain District AVA is one of the oldest and most respected wine producing areas of the entire North Coast region.

The winemaking philosophy of Stone Edge Farm Estate Vineyards and Winery is rooted in patience, balance, and respect for the land.  And a firm belief that great wines are made in the vineyard and that beauty and complexity come with time.

Chef Brian Limoges brings the Stone Edge Farm philosophy to fine dining at Enclos Restaurant. Innovative, ever-changing tasting menus invite guests on a journey of seasonality and terroir, drawing inspiration and ingredients from Stone Edge Farm’s sustainably managed gardens, orchards, and vineyards.

Awarded two Michelin Stars for outstanding quality, and a Michelin Green Star for their conservation efforts, Enclos offers a transformative sensory experience mere steps from the Sonoma Square.

The restaurant has an incredible selection of library vintages from Stone Edge Farm Estate Vineyards and Winery, showcasing the depth, elegance and age-worthiness of the estate-grown Sonoma wines.  Enclos also offers multiple flights of Stone Edge Farm wines with current releases and rare vintages.  The diverse cellar also has a foundational focus on the great regions of California and France.  Within its first year of operation, Enclos received an Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator.
