March 30, 2026 (London / Napa Valley) — Decanter, the world’s leading wine media brand, part of the Future PLC stable, has appointed Jonathan Cristaldi, its longstanding Napa Valley correspondent, as Acting North America Regional Editor.
Cristaldi will fulfil a caretaker position while Decanter recruits for a permanent replacement for Clive Pursehouse, who stepped down on Friday, March 27.
Pursehouse joined Decanter in September 2022 and played a pivotal role in strengthening Decanter’s editorial presence across the United States and the wider North American wine landscape.
He helped expand wine coverage in his home region of the Pacific Northwest, while working closely with correspondents to deepen reporting in California, Texas, Virginia, New York, Canada and Mexico.
As Decanter’s Napa Valley Correspondent since 2021, Cristaldi has produced in-depth coverage of this key Californian wine region for the brand’s monthly print magazine and Decanter.com digital channel.
His latest Napa Cabernet Sauvignon vintage report will be published in May, featuring reviews of more than 600 wines from the 2023 vintage, alongside a comprehensive analysis of the growing season and key recommendations for collectors and trade buyers.
In his interim position, Cristaldi will ensure continuity of North American wine content by working with Decanter’s expert contributors across the continent. He will also assume responsibility for the weekly US newsletter, sent to more than 10,000 subscribers.
Cristaldi is a familiar face to attendees of the annual Decanter Fine Wine Encounter New York, which returns to Manhattan for its fifth year on June 6.
He will co-host a Winemaker’s Lunch with Katie Vogt of Pahlmeyer as well as a Heitz Cellar Masterclass with Carlton McCoy MS. Tickets for both are now on sale at https://www.decanter.com/decanter-fine-wine-encounter-nyc/
Decanter is now launching a search for a permanent North America Regional Editor. The brand is seeking an experienced, well-connected wine journalist or editor with deep knowledge of the North American wine landscape to lead coverage across the US, Canada and Mexico.
