The 2021 vintage of the Tuscan winery flagship wine, confirms the international spirit and artisanal vocation that have determined its success over time

October 3, 2025 (Riparbella – Pisa, Italy) — Born from meticulous work in the vineyard and a winemaking process that respects natural rhythms, Caiarossa 2021 embodies the perfect synthesis of the estate’s style: balance, complexity, and a profound expression of the Riparbella terroir on Tuscany’s Tyrrhenian coast.
This emblematic wine – a unique blend of 30% Syrah, 20% Cabernet Franc, 16% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Sangiovese, 6% Petit Verdot, and 2% Grenache, aged for 14 months in French oak barriques – has received enthusiastic acclaim from the international wine press, confirming the exceptional character of the vintage.
One of the hallmarks of Caiarossa 2021 is its freshness and complexity, qualities that have been consistently highlighted by critics who tasted the wine in recent months. Monica Larner of Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate awarded it 95 points, praising its “balanced and bright” profile and noting that “the wine’s freshness seems to shine from its core,” with a mouthfeel that is “streamlined rather than bulky,” contributing to its lasting elegance. Antonio Galloni of Vinous (94 points) described it as “an elegant, sophisticated red,” emphasizing its energy, persistence, and “bright saline notes” that support a vibrant finish.
Colin Hay, writing for The Drinks Business, gave the wine 95+ points, calling it “the best yet from Caiarossa,” and commending its “impressive density, pleasing layering, and a precision that is even more evident in this vintage than in other recent ones.” James Suckling (96 points) highlighted its structure and finesse, describing “a firm and dense attack, full body, and velvety tannins of great extraction on the mid-palate, with refreshing natural acidity.” Wine Spectator and Decanter both awarded 95 points, with Wine Spectator noting the wine’s “power and grace.”
“The 2021 vintage was an excellent year,” explains Francesco Villa, Technical Director of Caiarossa, “in which the characteristics of each grape variety were enhanced across our different terroirs. The typically Mediterranean climate conditions allowed the grapes from each parcel to reach optimal ripeness, giving the final Caiarossa blend a perfect harmony of structure, complexity, and finesse. We are proud to present wines that reflect not only the passion and dedication we put into our work, but also a strong and distinctive territorial identity, and we are confident that the 2021 vintage will continue to be appreciated by wine lovers all over the world.”
A wine of depth, passion, and complex yet refined and harmonious character, Caiarossa 2021 stands out from the classic Super Tuscans thanks to the heterogeneity of its soils and the rich selection of grape varieties.
ABOUT CAIAROSSA
In the hills near the medieval village of Riparbella, on Tuscany’s coastal heights, nature reveals both strength and serenity. Lush vegetation, fruit trees, olive groves, vegetables and aromatic plants bring to life the colors, scents, and wonders of a unique territory – the land where Caiarossa stands. A magical light by day, created by the reflection of the sun’s rays on the distant sea, and a starry sky by night – this captivating atmosphere embraces the winery, red like the center of the earth, resting on the southwest slope of the hill. It was in 2004 that Eric Albada Jelgersma decided to purchase an estate in this special part of Italy, bringing with him the expertise he had developed over the years in Bordeaux with Château Giscours, a renowned Grand Cru Classé in the Margaux appellation. Eric Albada fell in love with this small yet beautiful winery, nestled in the Mediterranean scrub on the western slope of a hill overlooking the sea. Today, his children Dennis, Derk, and Valérie continue in their father’s footsteps, striving for the utmost precision in winemaking. This pursuit is centered on maintaining a deep connection with nature’s rhythms. That’s why, from its inception, the winery has followed the principles of biodynamic agriculture, aiming to enhance the vitality and resilience of the soil. Caiarossa wines are unique: refined blends that balance experimentation with harmony.
