September 30, 2025 (Atascadero, CA) — Sustainability In Practice (SIP) Certified® is proud to announce the successful certification of 136 vineyard and winery applicants for 2025.

This year’s members represent nearly 41,000 vineyard acres and six wineries across California, Oregon, and Michigan.
Twelve vineyards are celebrating 2025 as their first-ever year in the program. The new SIP Certified members span from Santa Barbara County to Monterey County, representing nearly 1 thousand sustainably-farmed vineyard acres.
What It Means to Be SIP Certified
SIP Certified is the industry’s strictest sustainability program. Certification is earned through independent, third-party verification of strict, science-based standards. Each year, applicants undergo a rigorous audit of their vineyard and winery practices from water conservation to energy efficiency, habitat protection, and social equity.
Only those who meet comprehensive standards earn the SIP Certified seal. This ensures that when wine lovers see the SIP Certified logo, they can trust that their wine was produced with practices that protect people and the planet.
“Certification isn’t about checking a box. It’s about demonstrating a daily commitment to sustainability that’s credible, measurable, and impactful,” said Beth Vukmanic, Executive Director of Vineyard Team.
Why Certification Matters
A growing number of consumers are demanding transparency and integrity in the products they buy. Since “certifications are the primary way in which consumers judge whether or not a product is environmentally responsible” (GlobeScan, 2023), SIP Certified responds with unmatched rigor, transparency, and absence of conflict of interest.
Driving Change in the Industry
As more vineyards and wineries continue to achieve sustainability certifications, we witness how sustainability is becoming embedded in the DNA of winegrowing. From small family-owned vineyards to large estates, participants are leading with integrity, often going above and beyond the baseline requirements to exemplify continuous improvement.
“We’re seeing innovation and commitment at every level,” said Vukmanic. “These growers and winemakers aren’t just responding to trends, they’re shaping the future of sustainable wine.”

About SIP Certified
Sustainability In Practice (SIP) Certified ® is a sustainable certification program for winegrowers and winemakers. The program evolved from the first sustainable vineyard self-assessment (Positive Points System) developed by Vineyard Team which helped growers evaluate their sustainable practices on every level, from habitat to water, soil to human resources. Today, nearly 41,000 vineyard acres in California, Oregon, and Michigan, six wineries, and more than 65 million bottles of wine have been SIP Certified.
