Vidal Fleury: A Legacy of Excellence Since 1781
Founded in 1781 in the heart of the Rhône Valley’s most prestigious vineyards, Joseph Vidal established “Maison Vidal,” marking the beginning of a winemaking tradition that has endured for over two centuries and is currently the oldest continuously operating wine producer in the Rhône Valley. In 1787, Thomas Jefferson, then the U.S. Ambassador to France, visited the estate and praised Vidal’s wines as “justly celebrated,” marking the first of many significant connections with the United States and solidifying the winery’s early reputation for excellence.
Through the years, Vidal Fleury has been known for producing wines of exceptional quality, deeply rooted in tradition and showcasing the region’s finest terroirs. In 1924, Joseph Vidal-Fleury hired Etienne Guigal as winemaker and cellar master, further solidifying the estate’s legacy of excellence. In 1984, the Guigal family took full ownership of the estate, a natural progression for two families that had long worked together in the wine industry.
