High-Elevation Site Expands Oregon’s Sustainable Winegrowing Legacy

CARLTON, OR, February 18, 2025 – Résonance, the acclaimed Willamette Valley winery that serves as Maison Louis Jadot’s first venture outside of France, is thrilled to announce the completion of organic certification for its 80-acre Koosah Vineyard estate. The new certification underscores Résonance’s commitment to environmental stewardship in the region, where they continue to build upon their reputation of producing critically lauded Burgundian varietals from Oregon terroir. The new achievement completes the founding vision for the four Resonance estate vineyards, all of which are now certified organic.
The newly certified property, originally acquired in January 2022, features 18 acres of Pinot noir and 26 acres of Chardonnay planted among steep, rocky slopes between 700-1,100 feet in elevation. While the vineyard has operated with organic practices since its purchase, the mandatory three-year transition period to formalize the organic certification has officially been completed, marking a significant milestone in Résonance’s history.
“This certification represents our continued dedication to producing wines that truly express the uniqueness of our home here in the Willamette Valley,” says Winemaker Guillaume Large. “Our organic farming practices honor both the Burgundian heritage of Maison Louis Jadot and the innovative spirit of Oregon winemaking.”
Beyond the cooling ocean winds from the Van Duzer Corridor that influence much of the region’s winemaking, Koosah Vineyard’s volcanic basalt and marine sedimentary soils—dating back 15 million years—are particularly well-suited to the cultivation of Pinot noir and Chardonnay vines. The organic protocols emphasize natural processes to enhance soil fertility, implementing practices such as cover cropping and on-site composting, while the vitality of the vineyard’s dry-farmed vines has benefitted from the absence of inorganic pesticides or fertilizers.
The organic certification arrives during Résonance’s release of single-vineyard Pinot noir and Chardonnays from the vineyard. The inaugural 2022 vintage of the Koosah Vineyard Chardonnay sold out quickly after its initial debut last fall, while the 2022 Koosah Vineyard Pinot noir will be available this spring through the winery’s two tasting rooms in the Willamette Valley and the winery website.
Since Maison Louis Jadot’s purchase of the eponymous vineyard in 2013, Résonance has consistently demonstrated its commitment to crafting wines that bridge Old World tradition with New World innovation. Résonance currently farms 139 acres of Pinot noir and Chardonnay across three nested AVAs within the Willamette Valley: Yamhill-Carlton, Dundee Hills, and Eola-Amity Hills, all of which are dry-farmed and certified organic. The latest organic certification of Koosah Vineyard represents another step forward in this journey, reinforcing the winery’s position as a leader in sustainable viticulture in the Pacific Northwest.
