Wine Producers Invited to Enter 22nd Decanter World Wine Awards

Entries for the 22nd Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA), the world’s largest and most influential wine competition, will close on 18 March 2025.

February 12, 2025 – Decanter World Wine Awards 2025 (DWWA) provides wine producers with the opportunity to have their wines assessed by leading experts from around the world. A DWWA medal is internationally recognised and serves as a benchmark of quality for both trade and consumers. For producers, recognition at DWWA can provide a valuable platform to expand market reach and enhance reputation on a global scale.

As the largest wine competition globally, last year’s 21st edition saw over 18,280 wines from 57 countries judged. The rigorous blind-tasting process ensures impartiality, with wines assessed within their respective categories based on region, colour, grape variety, style, vintage, and price point. The competition is widely regarded as an opportunity for producers to benchmark their wines against the best in the world and gain exposure to influential buyers, sommeliers, and wine professionals.

Decanter World Wine Awards Co-Chair Michael Hill Smith MW said: “What I like about this competition is that we strive to improve every year. Feedback from judges and participants is taken seriously and used to refine the process, ensuring fairness and consistency.”

After extensive tasting and re-tasting, wines are scored and awarded medals based on quality and distinction:

  • Bronze (86-89 points): Well-made wines that offer balance and character.
  • Silver (90-94 points): High-quality wines with notable expression and complexity.
  • Gold (95-96 points): Outstanding wines that stand out in their category.
  • Platinum (97-100 points): The highest-ranked Gold medal winners.
  • Best in Show: The top 50 wines selected from the Platinum list, providing further recognition for wines of exceptional quality.

Decanter World Wine Awards Co-Chair Andrew Jefford commented: “The important thing about Bronze is that it’s still a medal—it represents a wine worth recommending and drinking. Our competition is all about open discussion and rigorous evaluation.”

Producers entering the competition also benefit from Decanter’s extensive global reach across print, digital, and social media, as well as exposure at key international trade events and fine wine tastings.
