(Headquarters: Kobe, Japan; CEO: Takenosuke Yasufuku), the brewer of the sake brand Fukuju, will globally launch a limited edition of only five bottles of “FUKUJU Memories of Tomorrow”. The Great Hanshin Earthquake, which struck on January 17, 1995, with a magnitude of 7.3, caused devastating damage across Hyogo Prefecture. The disaster claimed approximately 6,400 lives, left over 40,000 people injured, and led to the widespread destruction of buildings and infrastructure. Kobe Shushinkan Brewery was also severely impacted, with its facilities and equipment destroyed. Amid an uncertain future, the brewery’s ability to rebuild was made possible through unwavering determination and community support. The release of “FUKUJU Memories of Tomorrow,” a sake that survived the disaster, marks this milestone with a reflection on both resilience and hope for a brighter future.
Brewed in December 1994, just one month before disaster struck, “FUKUJU Memories of Tomorrow” is a special sake that embodies the spirit of a brewery that overcame adversity. Crafted from Japan’s finest sake rice, Yamada Nishiki, grown in Hyogo Prefecture, it has been aged at low temperatures for an extended period, developing a delicate yet rich flavor with a mature aroma. This one-of-a-kind sake pays tribute to the resilience of the Kobe community and showcases the refined craftsmanship honed through its journey of recovery. Each of the five limited-edition bottles will be engraved with a serial number, offering a unique keepsake that honors the memory of the earthquake and conveys a prayer for recovery.
Through “FUKUJU Memories of Tomorrow,” Kobe Shushinkan Brewery aims to pass on the memories of the earthquake and express gratitude for recovery efforts to future generations. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to disaster prevention education and earthquake awareness initiatives.
