Shady Lane Cellars Goes into Full Holiday Mode with Wine Wonderland Dec. 14

Sustainable estate winery offers experiences, local gift ideas

SUTTON’S BAY, MICH. (Nov. 18, 2024) – The team at Suttons Bay-based Shady Lane Cellars is switching into holiday mode. 

There’s nothing more idyllic than spending the season in Leelanau County’s wine region, sipping Blaufränkisch by a fire, overlooking on the snow-covered rolling hills of the vineyard.

On Dec. 14, Shady Lane Cellars invites the public to experience all of this and more during its annual Wine Wonderland event. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. all ages are welcome to the experience the winter magic of this estate winery. 

According to Event Director Angela Turner, live music by Drew Alkema sets the mood from 2-5 p.m. Adults are welcome to taste and order Shady Lane Cellars award-winning wines – including the limited edition Great Lakes Wine Series at the Tasting Room. Younger visitors are sure to enjoy the Hot Chocolate Bar and a chance to create their own s’mores at patio firepits. 

Meanwhile. a ticketed Paint-and-Pour experience with Artist Helena Romano will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Dec. 14 inside Shady Lane’s historic farmhouse. Guests who register in advance will work with upcycled wine bottles to create their own wintry scene detailing vibrant cardinals amid birch trees. Paint-and-Pour includes a glass of wine. Those 21+ at all skill levels are welcome to join. This art experience costs $35 and space is limited

Throughout the day, igloos will provide extra warmth. Each hour the staff will raffle off prizes. Bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to Leelanau County Toys for Tots and Shady Lane Cellars will waive its wine tasting fee on Dec. 14.

“It’s a cozy winter event,” said Turner.

As gift-giving season approaches, Turner suggests wine fans will find a lot of options at the estate winery and online. First up – why not a winery tour?

Shady Lane Cellars offers Winery Tour and Tasting experiences at times throughout the year. It’s possible to purchase a gift certificate to cover the cost of a future tour for a truly memorable experience.

Group tours can accommodate two people or a crowd of up to 12. Led by a professional wine steward, the experience takes guests on a walking tour through the vineyard and offers a behind-the-scenes look into the sustainable production of Shady Lane Cellars award-winning wines. 

Another option for wine fans is a Shady Lane Cellars wine club membership. This gift lasts all year. The winery offers three tiers of membership to accommodate a range of prices. Choose from 4, 6 or 12 bottles per quarterly shipment. Wine shipments are delivered every February, May, September and November. 

Each Wine Club tier has its own perks – but all levels are fully customizable, include a discount of 25 percent off an initial purchase, require no membership fee and give members a chance to pause one shipment per year. Every year, one wine club member earns a complimentary private dinner with Executive Winemaker Kasey Wierzba.
