November 14, 2024 — Boutinot, a leading importer and wine producer, is the latest signatory to the Sustainable Wine Roundtable Bottle Weight Accord, an important research based global sustainability initiative launched in October 2023.
Independently owned, Boutinot control production of their own brands globally, with four vineyards in ownership. Their mission is to deliver quality wines at affordable prices while promoting sustainable practices. Nick Butler, Head of Product, said
“Since being members of the Sustainable Wine Round Table (SWR), we have found it really useful to engage with them on initiatives to drive sustainability in our sector. Signing up the Bottle Weight Accord is the next step. We’ll commit to reduce our average bottle weight to less than 420g by the end of 2026. We look forward to positively collaborate with manufacturers, production centres, producers and customers to advocate best practice, and ultimately help de-carbonise our supply chain”
Dr Peter Stanbury, Research Director at the Sustainable Wine Roundtable commented on Boutinot being the latest signatory
“We are delighted to have Boutinot join the Bottle Weight Accord. When it was launched a year ago, it was supported by retailers. Since then, a number of growers have joined, and Boutinot coming onboard shows that the Accord is relevant across the supply chain. We are excited to support Boutinot in this and other areas of their sustainability journey.”
Acknowledging the sustainability is a complex and evolving path, Eric Monnin, who heads up Boutinot’s wine production division, said
“We are learning so much from what the producers we represent are doing on their sustainability journey. With our own wineries in Sussex, Cairanne, Nelson and Franschhoek, alongside our own product business, we are already making continual improvements to drive their sustainability practices.”
