CAWG Hosts Webinar on November 14 at 10:00 AM to Introduce New Wildfire Smoke Endorsement for Crop Insurance

Sacramento, November 13, 2024 – In August, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced a  new Fire Insurance Protection-Smoke Index (FIP-SI) endorsement for crop insurance, designed specifically  to protect California grape growers from financial impacts of wildfire smoke. Starting with the 2025 crop  year, this endorsement will be available across all California counties as a pilot program. The deadline to  secure FIP-SI coverage for the 2025 season is January 31, 2025.

To help growers understand this new coverage, the California Association of Winegrape Growers (CAWG), in  partnership with Relation Insurance Services, will host a webinar on Thursday, November 14 at 10:00am.

This webinar will cover essential details on FIP-SI, including eligibility requirements, how it integrates with  current insurance policies, coverage conditions, and payment processes. Participants will gain insights into  how FIP-SI provides area-wide protection by triggering a claim when smoke exposure meets specific  thresholds, eliminating the need for individual loss notices.

CAWG invites the entire industry to participate in this informative webinar, where you’ll gain insights into the  new wildfire smoke endorsement and evaluate if it’s the right insurance option for your operation.
