November 12, 2024 — On Friday November 08, 2024, The ‘Doc’ McPherson Award was presented in San Antonio, Texas, at HEB Corporate Offices to Dan Schuette, Director of Wine and Beer, HEB Grocery Company, LP.
The ‘Doc’ McPherson Award is presented annually by the SAGMOR FOUNDATION on behalf of its board and The McPherson Family. This very special award honors industry pioneer, Clinton ‘Doc’ McPherson, and is presented, “In Recognition of Outstanding and Continuous Work in, and Support of The Texas Wine Industry.”
Owner, winemaker and son of Doc McPherson, on behalf of Sagmor Foundation and the McPherson Family, Kim McPherson presented the award to Mr. Schuette, whom he has known and worked with for many years. “When the committee thinks about nominees, we think about ‘impact.’ HEB has a huge commitment to Texas products and that includes Texas wines. They provide access; but more importantly, HEB provides a showcase and support of these products. And the person who is at the helm – providing all of his direct professional and personal support to all of us in this industry – is none other than Dan Schuette. I am personally very excited to present this much-deserved award to him,” stated Mr. McPherson.
Dan Schuette has been with HEB for 28 years in various roles; he has served as Director of Wine and Beer for eight years.
This award is overseen and managed by Sagmor Foundation. Each year the awardee receives an award certificate and a vine from the last cutting on the State of Texas ‘historic place,’ Sagmor Vineyard. In addition, a SCHOLARSHIP is awarded in the recipient’s honor to a student in the Texas Tech University Viticulture & Enology Program. The scholarship honoring Mr. Schuette will be awarded and announced in Spring 2025.
