Special large-format bottles ideal for holiday entertaining and gifting
November 4, 2024 (HEALDSBURG, Calif.) — Dry Creek Vineyard, the family-owned winery that helped pioneer Cabernet Sauvignon from Dry Creek Valley, announced that it will release a limited quantity of its 2019 50th Anniversary Cabernet Sauvignon in magnum formats.
The unique and limited 1.5-liter bottles are crafted with exceptional attention to detail and adorned with a rare pewter label created in France. The wine is sourced from the finest Cabernet Sauvignon lots of the 2019 vintage, highlighting Dry Creek Valley’s unique terroir.
“This is a wine that not only celebrates where we’ve been as a family and a winery over two generations, it’s also a wine that will age gracefully, making it a beautiful addition to any collection,” said Kim Stare Wallace, President and second-generation owner of Dry Creek Vineyard. “We decided to release this wine in time for the holidays because it represents everything our family believes in, and we want it to be a centerpiece for people celebrating their own traditions.”
This special release commemorates five decades of family winemaking in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley. The wine is available through the winery’s tasting room and website for $220, or $240 in a commemorative gift box.
Director of Winemaking Tim Bell describes the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon as “the best Cabernet we’ve ever produced,” a testament to the ideal growing conditions that year. “2019 offered a mild season that allowed for a long hang time, giving the fruit ample opportunity to develop fully while preserving its natural acidity. The result is a balanced, complex wine with the depth and richness our followers expect from a Dry Creek Valley Cabernet.”
The growing season in 2019 began with cooler-than-average conditions, leading to a late harvest that spanned nearly 70 days, as each vineyard block was picked at ideal ripeness. This extended period allowed the fruit to reach optimal flavor maturity and resulted in a deeply nuanced Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine showcases initial aromas of black currant, black cherry and plum, followed by layers of chai spice, sweet tobacco and freshly ground coffee. On the palate, bright blackberry and raspberry flavors intertwine with hints of pepper, cardamom and mocha, with velvety tannins creating a long, lingering finish.
“Our magnums are perfect for those memorable gatherings around the holidays with friends and family,” Kim Stare Wallace continued. “Wine has a unique way of bringing people together, and we are so proud to share a piece our family’s history.”
