Recognized for its distinctive blue label, Tommasi Ripasso has captured the attention of wine enthusiasts worldwide, embodying the winery’s rich heritage and commitment to quality
October 16, 2024 – Verona — To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Ripasso Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC, Tommasi is unveiling a limited-edition magnum (1.5L), presented in a bespoke celebratory case. This exclusive release, inspired by a “journey through time,” pays tribute to the wine’s history while embracing innovation for the future. In addition to the magnum, the Ripasso will also be available in a newly designed, lightweight 750ml bottle (410g), an eco-friendly choice that sets a new standard for sustainability and design.
Honoring Tradition, Embracing the Future
“Back to the Classic” is the theme for this milestone anniversary, taking us back to 1995 when Tommasi first introduced its Ripasso. The celebration of 30 years sees the wine reinvigorated with a new commemorative label and a special limited edition of 10,000 magnum cases, featuring artwork by Verona-based digital artist Andrea Gnesato. Inspired by the iconic DeLorean from “Back to the Future,” the illustration whimsically portrays a Fiat Panda, symbolizing a wine that has stood the test of time and remains relevant in every era.
The Evolution of the Classic Towards the Future
«We are proud to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Tommasi Ripasso, a wine that seamlessly blends tradition and innovation, representing the essence of our territory – says Pierangelo Tommasi, general director – Our mission is to ensure Ripasso continues to shine on both the national and international stage, while consistently maintaining the highest quality standards».
Rooted in Valpolicella’s winemaking heritage, Ripasso emerged from a visionary technique: the refermentation of Valpolicella wine on Amarone grape pomace, which historically was used for Recioto. This traditional process has given rise to a wine renowned for its depth of flavor, aromatic richness, and complexity. Today, this method also embodies sustainability, illustrating how the principles of circular economy and environmental stewardship are integral to the winemaking culture of Valpolicella. «Ripasso represents our identity, characterized by a deep respect for tradition combined with a forward-looking approach – concludes Pierangelo Tommasi – Celebrating this anniversary is about honoring an enduring journey of excellence that continues to evolve, with a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation at every step».
Sustainability and Innovation: A Lighter Footprint
In line with its 30th-anniversary celebration, Tommasi is taking a significant step forward in sustainability. The introduction of the lightweight 750ml glass bottle (410g) reduces the wine’s carbon footprint by 40%, cutting down on production and transportation costs while significantly lowering CO2 emissions. This initiative reflects a bold move towards a more sustainable future without compromising on quality or tradition, enhancing the consumer’s experience with a more conscious choice.
A Wine for the Ages
Tommasi Ripasso Valpolicella Classico Superiore is a ruby-red wine with deep aromas of ripe cherry, black pepper, and tobacco. On the palate, it reveals elegance, soft tannins, and a lasting finish, making it a versatile wine that transcends trends. It is a timeless classic, appealing to discerning palates and setting the standard for premium wines, while remaining true to its authentic character.
