New York, New York, October 1, 2024 – Dom Pérignon is honored to announce the release of its special-edition Vintage 2015, a tribute to the legendary artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. This unique offering celebrates the fusion of Basquiat’s radical and enduring artistic expression with Dom Pérignon’s perpetual pursuit of harmony and excellence in craftsmanship. With this release, the Champagne Maison continues its tradition of collaboration with visionary creators, reinforcing its position at the intersection of luxury, art, and culture.
Though Jean-Michel Basquiat and Dom Pérignon come from different worlds, their creative spirits share a common foundation—pushing boundaries to create something transformative. Basquiat’s art, with its raw and itinerant energy, parallels Dom Pérignon’s relentless pursuit of creative renewal in its winemaking. Just as Basquiat broke new ground by blending cultural influences and techniques, Dom Pérignon honors its heritage while continuously evolving through innovative vintages. Both find a delicate balance between structure and freedom, precision and improvisation, whether through the brushstrokes of Basquiat’s canvases or the artistry of blending grapes to craft a vintage. At their core, both Basquiat’s work and Dom Pérignon’s wines embody a shared desire to challenge the status quo and inspire through their unique visions.
As a tribute to Basquiat’s genius, Dom Pérignon has crafted a special edition of its 2015 Vintage, featuring artwork inspired by one of Basquiat’s most enigmatic and influential pieces, In Italian (1983). The vibrant and complex composition of this work is reflected in the design of three unique coffrets (gift boxes), each depicting a different section of the painting. When brought together, the coffrets reveal the full artwork, a nod to both Basquiat’s assemblage technique and Dom Pérignon’s own master method of blending. The bottles within feature a hybrid emblem—a fusion of Dom Pérignon’s historic shield and Basquiat’s famed three-branched crown. The crown, a recurring motif in Basquiat’s work, symbolizes power and the elevation of his subjects. Together with the shield, these symbols create a visual representation of the meeting between two creative forces—each representing excellence in their respective fields.
In addition to the special-edition coffrets, Dom Pérignon will unveil an exclusive ‘uberpiece’—a collector’s item available in just eight pieces worldwide. While the coffrets pay tribute to Basquiat’s iconic In Italian through three distinct designs that come together as a whole, the uberpiece is designed for true connoisseurs of both fine art and luxury wine. Each uberpiece features a completely bespoke design and a unique, one-of-a-kind presentation, elevating the experience to new heights of exclusivity. This rare offering was created in collaboration with Artestar, a global creative consultancy and licensing agency representing the works of world-renowned visual artists, estates, and foundations, including Jean-Michel Basquiat.
For nearly three decades, Dom Pérignon has collaborated with some of the most revolutionary artists and creators, from Andy Warhol to Jeff Koons and now Jean-Michel Basquiat. Each collaboration has been a reflection of the Maison’s commitment to reinvention and its ability to stay at the forefront of both art and culture. With this tribute to Basquiat, Dom Pérignon continues to push the boundaries of artistic expression, reinforcing its connection to contemporary culture and creativity. The Dom Pérignon Vintage 2015 Jean-Michel Basquiat special edition will be available at select retailers starting October 2024. The SRP for the special-edition coffrets is $305 USD.
About Dom Pérignon
In 1668, a young Benedictine monk, Dom Pierre Pérignon, was appointed cellarer and procurator at the Abbey of Hautvillers, overlooking Champagne. With an innovative mind and hard-working spirit, Dom Pierre Pérignon gave his life to perfectionate vine-growing and winemaking, on a quest for the “best wine in the world.”
Dom Pérignon’s vision strives towards harmony as a source of emotion. Harmony in which its aesthetic and sensory values are played out: precision, intensity, touch, minerality, complexity, completeness, a way of embracing and grasping each note. Dom Pérignon can only be produced from the harvest of a single year. This commitment is absolute. To orchestrate its vintages, Dom Pérignon has the widest access to grapes selected from all 17 Grands Crus of Champagne and the legendary Hautvillers Premier Cru.
