NAPA / SONOMA, CALIFORNIA | September 23, 2024 — On Monday, September 30, 2024, at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, Women For WineSense will present “As a Doctor, I’ve Read the Data, and I Still Consume Wine in Moderation: a Talk with Laura Catena, MD,” a Zoom live-stream discussion navigating the complex relationship between wine consumption and health with Dr. Laura Catena, a fourth-generation Argentine vintner, medical doctor and graduate of Stanford Medical School. The one hour virtual professional event will cover the pending update of the U.S. dietary guidelines for alcohol against the backdrop of a recent WHO statement that ‘no amount of alcohol is safe,’ leaving time for Q & A.
ABOUT THE EVENT:
Dr. Catena is the Managing Director of Bodega Catena Zapata and Luca Winery. During the past 25 years, she has been a practicing part-time physician of Emergency Medicine in San Francisco. She will provide a nuanced, research-based exploration of alcohol’s effects on health and advocates for informed individual decision-making and responsible drinking practices, including wine in moderation within the context of a healthy diet and lifestyle.
The discussion will critically examine the WHO’s claim, emphasizing the importance of moderation and the cultural aspects of wine drinking, drawing on Dr. Catena’s extensive background in both medicine and winemaking.
