Capital Call Vintners Announces Barons Winery Acquisition and Opening of Walla Walla Tasting Room

September 13, 2024 – Walla Walla, WA—Capital Call Vintners, a new winery in Walla Walla, is excited to announce:

1.         The acquisition of the respected Barons Winery brand

A stalwart of Washington wine since its founding in 1999, Capital Call Vintners has acquired the Barons Winery brand. The original partners have retired.

“When the Barons leadership decided it was time to retire, we jumped at the chance to acquire this highly regarded brand,” said Steve Bruere, a founding partner in Capital Call Vintners. “Barons has a long history of producing excellent wine. We aspire to continue this incredible legacy of production and service under the Capital Call Vintners brand.”

To honor the Barons acquisition, Capital Call will produce two tribute bottles. The 2022 Barons Cabernet Sauvignon will be 95% Red Mountain fruit with 5% fruit from our estate Wheatfield Vines Vineyard. This bottle will bear the traditional and familiar Barons silk screen label.

The 2022 Terra Barone Sangiovese, harvested from Wheatfield Vines Vineyard, captures the essence of farming, location, and tradition. This will be the first wine from the new Terre Barone label (Italian for “land baron” and pronounced bear-OH-nay).

2.         The opening of a Walla Walla tasting room

As well as acquiring the Barons name, Capital Call Vintners now occupies the Barons tasting room space in downtown Walla Walla. The tasting room, which is located right around the corner from the historic Marcus Whitman Hotel, will reopen under the Capital Call Vintners banner on October 5.

Media are invited to tour the newly renovated tasting room and experience the wines. To schedule a visit, please email tasting room manager Bryan Walters at bryan@capitalcallvintners.com.

3.         The debut of the “Doctor Dirt” label in honor of co-founder Alan Busacca

Capital Call Vintners co-founder Alan Busacca earned the nickname “Doctor Dirt” during his  decades as a soil scientist, field geologist, and educator. He is currently a vineyard consultant as well as the co-owner of our estate Windhorse Vineyard, located in The Dalles, OR.

The inaugural 2022 vintage of Doctor Dirt will be released this fall. This red blend from Wheatfields Vines Vineyard will be available online and in the tasting room.

About Capital Call Vintners

To showcase the brilliant fruit from our three estate vineyards—Wheatfield Vines and Carbondale Vineyards in the Walla Walla AVA and the Windhorse Vineyard in the Columbia Gorge AVA—Steve and Nikki Bruere and Alan Busacca formed Capital Call Vintners in 2020.

Steve Bruere, President of the Peoples Company, is deeply entrenched in agriculture, real estate, and business. Alan Busacca has a rich understanding of the Pacific Northwest terroir through his long career as a soil scientist, geologist, researcher, and instructor at Washington State University.

As the business started to come together, the partners learned the lesson that many in the wine industry know all too well: to make a small fortune in the wine business, you must first start with a large fortune. This principle became the flagship and foundation of Capital Call Vintners.

In 2024, Capital Call will produce 2,000 cases, including the flagship Capital Call Cabernet Sauvignon.
