Crealis Presents a Greener Material for Premium Sparkling Foils

Davide Pagano (Crealis’s General Manager): “Sustainability requires market responsibility: We ensure a green update with an unchanged price”

(Bodio Lomnago – ITALY, September 10th 2024) – Reducing the environmental impact, without increasing the final price. This is the latest bet of Enoplastic, historical brand of Crealis Group specialized in capsule and closure solutions, presenting the new Derma75L as sustainable evolution of the widest used polylaminate for sparkling foils at the same price of the former version.

Just to understand the impact of this operation, the former Derma75 is produced in more than 1800 tons in a year, for a total of 600 million of finished product, each of one dresses a bottle of sparkling wine.

Thanks to the use of a new and more performant aluminum alloy, this new proposal allows to reduce the carbon emissions by 17% compared to the former version (Source: Independent Life Cycle Assessment on 2023 data, realized with the methodological support by Deloitte), ensuring the same performances of the finished product.

According to Davide Pagano, Crealis S.p.A. general manager: “We are investing to ensure increasingly sustainable and qualitative materials maintaining final prices unchanged: a free of charge “upgrade” for our customers, absorbing all the additional costs in terms of production process and raw materials. A responsible choice toward the market that demonstrates how much we believe in the innovation value for a tangible breakthrough in the sign of sustainability, but also in the circularity of the process: any improvement on the top of the production scale has its consequences on the whole supply chain, contributing to reaching partner’s goals as well. Basically, a Win-Win solution toward economies of scale that will make sustainability more and more accessible even from an economical point of view”.

This philosophy, already adopted for the launch of PET+ (produced with 35% of recycled plastic at the same price of the previous version with 20% of recycled plastic), is part of the ESG strategy of the Group that in the latest months committed to set short-term corporate reduction targets based on the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi): -42% for the direct greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1) and the indirect emissions related to energy consumption (Scope 2), and -25% for the indirect emissions from activities within the supply chain (Scope 3) – targets pending approval related to 2022 data and to be realized by 2030. Within the first semester Crealis has also brought to full capacity the operation of the new Solvent Recovery Plant in Enoplastic site, an innovative structure that since a few months allows the Bodio Lomnago production site to work without purchasing any solvents.

Independent Life Cycle Assessment (cradle to gate – data collection year 2023 – production at Crealis S.p.A. Bodio Lomnago, Italy) with the methodological support in the calculation by Deloitte in 2024, comparing Derma75 Premium foil with Derma75L Premium Foil using a standard size Premium sparkling foil diameter 34mm, taper 1/8 and length of 120mm.
