(Sept. 5, 2024; NAPA, Calif.)—Chris Kajani, president and winemaker of Bouchaine Vineyards in Napa’s Carneros AVA, is pleased to announce that the winery has released its first vintage of an estate Alsatian Blend wine, a proprietary cuvée of Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. The 2023 Bouchaine Alsatian Blend (SRP $50) is now available for purchase through the winery’s website and tasting room, located at 1075 Buchli Station Road in Napa.
The wine is 50% Pinot Gris, 30% Pinot Blanc, 10% Riesling and 10% Gewurztraminer and is vinified to 0 grams per liter of residual sugar. A selection of different vessels were used during the winemaking process to extract complementary flavors from each variety: concrete egg for the Pinot Gris, clay amphora for Riesling and Gewurztraminer, and neutral oak for the Pinot Blanc. These vessels give additional texture and layers to an already expressive blend, with each grape working in tandem to create a dynamic and extraordinary bottling unlike any other in the Napa Valley.
“Sometimes, winemaking can defy the rules of math, and this is certainly a wine that demonstrates that,” says Kajani. “When we blended these grapes together, they proved to be greater than the sum of their parts, with minerality, floral notes and acidity that all come together in a beautiful wine that is distinctly ‘Bouchaine.’”
Bouchaine owners Tatiana and Gerret Copeland are constantly working with their teams to encourage creativity at the Carneros estate. “My husband and I have spent our lives traveling and living across Europe. Drawing inspiration from France’s famed Alsace region, this new wine is emblematic of our love for those refined, elegant wines that we’ve long admired and enjoyed over the years and may not be as readily available here in Napa Valley” says Copeland. “At Bouchaine, we believe wine makes you happy and part of embodying that philosophy is providing bottlings that surprise and delight our guests—which is exactly what the Alsatian Blend delivers.”
About Bouchaine Vineyards
Bouchaine was founded by Gerret and Tatiana Copeland and is today one of the leading producers of sustainably farmed Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the Carneros AVA. The estate is comprised of 104 acres, including a dramatic tasting room designed in the form of a welcoming embrace, complete with a state-of-the-art open kitchen. The vineyards at Bouchaine are greatly influenced by the adjacent San Pablo Bay, where cool breezes and the daily influx of fog allow cool climate varieties to shine. The location’s substantial daily temperature shifts also help develop beautiful acidity in the fruit, resulting in wines with vivid energy and texture. Noted as the first “Fish Friendly Farming” certified vineyard in Napa Valley, the winery is also Napa Green land and winery certified. If one sentence can encapsulate the energy of Bouchaine, it is the winery’s new trademarked slogan, “Wine Makes you Happy™.”
