Sean Thackrey embodied the free spirit in American winemaking. He focused on bringing attention to the perfect plots of land for the wide range of varietals of progressive wine enthusiasts, in the days before these locations and varietals were broadly celebrated. Spanning the range between everyday drinkable wines and long-term agers, he was ahead of his time – as so many landmark winemakers are.

“I traveled to the almost mythical little town of Bolinas to look at the storage conditions and, in typical Sean Thackery style, they were in triply climate-controlled quarters. The semi-subterranean cellar location received continual Pacific Ocean breezes. Combined with active climate control systems, it made the best long-term storage conditions I can imagine, both in temperature and humidity. Tasting the wines personally confirmed that the collection is in pristine condition and of perfect provenance,” said Benchmark Founder and CEO David Parker.
